I want a Damascus Spydie, which one?

My wife (bless her heart) bought me a Spydie for me birthday. She got me a Rubicon, but I already have one. I don't want two of that model. So we are returning it and I'm going to pick another one. I don't really have my sights set on any knife available right now, but she doesn't want me to wait and wants me to pick one out soon.

I've kind of always wanted a Damascus blade. I can't decide between the Stretch and Delica. I love Stretch's, this would be my fourth one (all different), but the scales are a little busy. The Delica has nice clean Ti scales but I like a bit bigger knife. I do have a SB and Kahr Delica already. I seem to remember some talk of the Delica's action not being great though. Any thoughts, especially if you own both or either?

Since you're not sold on the Stretch scales and the Delica is too small, how about the ti/damascus Endura that's out now?

I knew it was coming, didn't know it hit the streets though. I'll have to look into that one too.

I'd love one of these, so you could have one and it could be mine vicariously :D

Happy Birthday!

That's intriguing. Know anywhere they are still in stock? I see the orange, but that blue is something else!

If it were me, I'd get the Stretch -- just because it's a small sprint run. My wife got me one of the Caly 3 CF Damascus for a gift when it was out and there's something very special about having one of such a limited run. And it's an awesome knife.

(I carry it, too. Despite the fact that they are currently worth $100 more than when she picked it up. I'm not giving it up, so I might as well carry and use it.)

You already love the Stretch. Get the Stretch. If you want to thin the herd later, sell one of the others and keep the damascus one.

I don't own any Spyderco Damascus either, and have been lightly considering picking something up. Have been eyeballing that black Nishijin Stretch...

Rasco, that Mule is neat looking as well! Where did you get the handle, or did you do it yourself?

Well, I am considering my search over. I just snagged a Kuhkri off the for sale thread here:D I have been after that (plus still looking for a Phoenix, and a user CTS-20CP Para 2) for a long time now. Couldn't pass that up. Maybe I will revisit the Damascus Spydie. I almost snagged the Ti Endura, it was in the cart (with a Santoku for good measure too), but I didn't follow through. Glad I waited.

Well my wife dropped $285 on the Rubicon, so I saved her (us) some money [emoji6] Isn't that what we do, justify?

Congrats on the wonderful wife that will spend that kind of money on your knife habit,
She's a keeper
My wife does the same and we just celebrated our 35th anniversary last week, although I give her 100% of the credit for putting up with me and feeding my knife addiction
:)

Good point!
I like the Kuhkri much better than the Rubicon anyway. Make sure and post up some photos of it when you get it!

If you do revisit the Spyderco Damascus, I can vouch for those claiming the action on the Ti/Damascus Delica is rough. Mine only came with one phosphur/bronze washer and even after replacing both washers with new ones from a Delica parts kit, it is still very tight opening. It is a beautiful knife but I don't carry it much any more because it is so hard to use. I handled one at the SFO in Golden recently and it was a little better than mine but still not easy.
I love the Spydie Damascus pattern but I am not sure if any of them have the kind of action I expect from a Spyderco.

Thanks, opening action is very important to me.

Did your Endura have one phosphor bronze and one nylon washer? I have a large Lum Chinese that does and it's the only knife I've ever seen like that.

The action on my blue nishjin/damascus Stretch is great. I can even flick it open with only slight wrist action, which hasn't been typical of lockback knives for me. It's the only damascus Spydie I have though, so I don't know if my experience or yours is the norm.

Get the Endura TI Damascus if the Delica is too small. I have the Ti Delica with Damascus and it is a beauty.
