I have been wanting a nice flipper for the past few months now but I just don't know what to get. The two knives that I think of for a nice flippers are the Zero Tolerance 0560/0561 or the Microtech Whale-shark. There is also some photos of a Spyderco flipper called the Brad Southard Folder which is still a prototype. So the question I have is what is a good flipper? I am looking for something that is anywhere in the price range of 200-400 dollars and preferably American made knife.

Both the Zt and the Whale shark are good knives. I didn't care for the size/weight and feel of the ZT myself but it is a well loved knife. The Fox Deimos is the smoothest flipper I've ever had. Put the ZTs I handled to shame. Fox's N690Co is good steel too. Also check out the HTM Gunhammer. That's an often overlooked knife that is just wonderful, and now it comes in assisted and manual versions.

I have a ZT 0560 and it is a fantastic flipper. I couldn't imagine a knife's action being any smoother. Make sure you handle the 560 if you can, if you are going to get one, some people have had issues with overly strong detents and sticky locks. I can't speak about the MT but I will probably be buying Spyderco's new flipper when it comes out.

Smoothest production flipper ever made. Kershaw tilt. They pop up on the exchange once in a while and they are in your price range. Thay are well worth the money for the Vanax 75 and CF.

+1 for the ZT 560. It has a break in time that isn't long at all, especially if it causes you to flip it whenever your hands are free. Had mine for 6 months now and the lock hasn't moved from since week 1 of use and it just, somehow, feels smoother every day I pick it up.

I just checked out the Fox Deimos and I like how it looks and it is a big blade, the only thing I saw that I didn't really like about it was that is seems to have the same lock safety as a CRKT m16.

It does have the same style lock. When activated it simply blocks the liner from being depressed. It's there but doesn't have to be used.

green is good
red is bad

Totally not in your price range, but the Kershaw R.A.M. is one hell of a knife. Best flipper action I have encountered, very smooth, and American made. Just because it retails for ~$60 does not make it any less of a knife. Kerhsawguy sells blems for $45 I think. I say grab one even if you get something more "high end." You will not be dissapointed.

For $45-$60 I guess I will just have to pick one up next time I am at a gun show and I see a Kershaw dealer.

What is bad about the Microtech Whale-shark?

the microtech part...

If you care about buying from a company that has good ethics and good customer service, Microtech is not the right choice.

Look up 0777 vs Matrix on google... all will become clear
