Think I got something working. Got a WCF head on a short handle from a forum member; finally got around to putting it on a longer handle so it's nice and balanced. I like the look. I left a lot of meat under the poll because the eye was teeeeny, and I want to support the kerfed and wedged wood as much as I can. Time will tell if it'll hold.

That is an interesting looking head. I don't think I've ever seen an axe head like this, it's reminiscent of a 2hawks or trail hawk.

I was tickled to get ahold of it. It was a bear to hang, though! Here's the handle it came on, from forum member fogdart fogdart .
It turned out closer to what I was chasing in the OP than I had any right to expect.
