Ive been out of the knife collecting loop for a while, because im a sebenza owner. before i bought a sebenza i had all the rest..and while some made some nice knives, i was always a little let down, with little things like screws with burrs and blades that werent centered..you know typical stuff...and my biggest pet peve was metal shaving down in the liner lock....damn i hate that.( take a business card and run it down in the liner lock..see what i mean) Im looking for a knife in the sebenza price range with sebenza quality...can anyone recomend anything . Im kinda spoiled after owning a sebenza, so comming close wont do it. Thanks for the help..

Without knowing your size and use parameters I can only speculate and suggest an Mnandi. It is one of the best EDC options out there and you can be assured that it will be just as well made as it's big brother. ;)

i have actually been looking for the same, but i would also like to find a knife that is half the price as well.

and i think i found one; i am getting ready to order one of the benchmade 553 griptilian called the "RSK". you can check this link for it: http://www.aeromedix.com/index.php?_siteid=aeromedix&action=sku&sku=bmrsk&_sessid=58a540481857600d897c80a00f8d0cb1
this knife appeals to me because it's same great griptilian feel... with a lot better blade shape and steel. the blade looks very close to the sebenza blade, and in S30V!

thanks!

It just might come to getting another sebenza....but why cant other companies build a knife that comes thru flawless. Watches come thru fine for 60 bucks ,...so do pens for 50 bucks...I dont have a problem with paying 300.00 for a knife, but i wont do it if the quality isnt there. So far i only see chris reeve at the top...but please correct me if im wrong.

Mike Obenauf. Pick your poison, framelock or linerlock. Fit and finish is amazing. Quality is unreal. Ergonomics and choices in style and materials are far superior to the sebenza. Also, you would be hard pressed to find a better man to deal with.

If you're willing to pay for a woodie Sebenza your price range can cover a lot of customs.
Darrel Ralph- incredible fit and finish. I have a Maxx, but the EDC looks great.
J.W. Smith- smoother than anything I've touched.
Wes & Pat Crawford. I have a KFF, I can't put that knife down :)
All those cost me within $50 of the price of my woodie Classie Sebbie (swedge, double lugs).

The Sebenza is the standard by which all the others are measured.

I think you might be disapointed by anything else except another Sebenza.

Want to try a different flavor entirely? Try a Strider SnG.
A crude instrument compaired to the sebenza - but an instrument which will make you feel like the monkey in 2001 when he discovers that the bone in his hand is actually a weapon which can instantly catapault him to alpha male! Holding the sebenza is like holding something beautiful, fluid and perfect - almost like it wasnt made by humans. Holding the SnG feels different .. its suddenly clear that in your hand is a sturdy and rugged TOOL which begs to get to work immediatly on the most dirty and strenuous task. So where as these two knives are world appart in differences - one things for sure which they share. These are probably the two most accomplished folders made.

ok, mike obie's been suggested. You mentioned fit and finish, so Striders are out.

I'd suggest you take a looks at Rick Hinderer's firetacs. They are much better than Sebenzas, and I've had sebenzas. About $400, about the same price as an SNG. S30V, titanium, flame-grilled (if you want), buttery smooth with fit and finish that is better than sebenzas.

However, nothing is as easier to disassemble than a sebenza.

Obenauf, Carson, Lochsa, Terzuola, Eddie Baca. Eddie can build you a custom knife to your specs for around Sebenza prices. Do a search on the forums and you'll see some pics I posted. Sweet knives. Striders are awesome and I love mine, but they won't appeal to you if you are looking for CRK fit and finish.

Have fun,
John...

Edited to add-
You can never go wrong with another Sebenza. How about something semi rare like a NICA Tanto?

A Rick Hinderer Firetac would be a good choice. The fit and finish is as good as a Sebenza. The size is similar. You can have them with or without inlays, anodized or satin finish. There are three different blade shapes available. They feel strong, like they are meant to be used. Some other custom knives don’t seem like they would have the endurance to stand up to everyday chores. A Firetac is well worth the $400. A Firetac Extreme is bigger, for $500. The J. W. Smith framelocks are also quite nice.

Im kinda new to knives, so I probably am missing something, but I don't see how people can think the griptilians or any knife with that type of handle, push-locking mechanism can be stable enough to stake their lives on, if necessary, since these locking mechanisms are pretty sketchy, in that it doesn't take much force to accidentally disengage them, and voila, one or more less fingers. At least, that fact kept me from getting one after my buddy raved about them, and I subsequently handled one with the idea of getting one - that thing is not nearly "positive" enough for me personally.

If you want a knife as good as the Sebenza but different, I'd suggest you to take a look at the Spyderco ATR (Ti handles version, not the SS one). It features Ti hadles, S30V blade, a REALLY strong lock and a nice and functional shape.
