I want a Survival Knife, any help please...

I will reiterate what other people have already said, Becker BK7 or BK9. They fit the bill perfectly and are under $100.

Ontario knife company makes a spec plus line that has a bowie you should look into. Good price on a good knife

Do your self a favor and get a becker bk9 that is the best big knife foe the money in my opinion

I think this was a "joke" post.

maybe not :D

However all I see him buying are overpriced Pakistani garbage knives ! Ontario SP-10 $60 is very good knife to buy for what u looking for and it has 10"blade ;)

And like everybody else is saying If you want to spend $1000 get a custom! Me personally I would get something in CPM 154 cm but that's just me :-)

You've pretty much been buying junk knives. Get a becker bk7 or bk9 or a esee junglas or esee6 for good carbon steel knives that will last and hold an edge. Or step up in price and get a scrapyard dog, swamp rat, or busse. Any of those will outlast what you have been buying and out perform them.

This would be my thoughts exactly. If minimal maintenance is desirable, I would just jump straight to Busse since they are well within your budget. I would look at the Basic 10, Basic 11, and the currently available ASHBM. If 0.25 is too thick, the Bushwhacker Mistress is 0.187, but it is still heavier than the basics, and only 2 or 3 Oz lighter than the ASHBM.

If you want to stay under $300, I would look at the Scrapyard 911, 1111, 1311, Swamprat Battle Rat, Rodent 9, M9, Rat Mastiff(probably over $300 on this one). These will all rust a lot easier than the Busses will, but will be just fine with minimal care.

All of these will have excellent impact resistance, good or great edge holding, and easy to sharpen. The Busses in INFI are also almost stainless, only rust on the very surface if you don't care for them at all, and I've never seen one pit.

Busse Basic 10 is 10.25" of 0.23 at only 15 oz and the Basic 11 is 11.25 of 0.25 at 17 oz. A full length hidden tang saves a ton of weight without compromising much. And you gain the thermal insulation and shock absorption of Res-C.

Forget the bowie. If you're dead set on a knife built as a "survival" knife, get a Fallkniven F1. Pair it with a Victorinox Farmer for that great little saw blade and be done with it. You'll have spent around $150 on the pair, depending on where you live and who you buy from, but you'll have reliability without a ton of weight. For less than a $100, you could get a Buck Vanguard or a KaBar Mark 1 Navy knife and the Vic. Farmer.

A knife is multifunctional, granted a gun has more stopping power... But I want versatility, a knife can be used to craft most anything, a shiny knife can even be used to signal. If need be you can fight or hunt with it... you can use it as a hammer... you can baton yourself fire wood.... I could go on and on but you get the idea... assuming I have my knife or gun in a pinch that is. Now a gun is by far a better choice, but what can you do with it... you can kill most anything as long as you don't run out of bullets, it makes a good blunt weapon for melee fighting, how ever most animals wont let you get that close, you really can't craft much with it... I mean really I said survival knife, I want a tool that wont fail me when I need it, nothing is foolproof... but a knife has the most uses, and if given the choice of one object to have in a survival situation I'd pick a knife.

Now you are talking about preparing for winter not a survival situation, I cant take a camp stove, 10 cases of MRE's, 50 gal. of water wherever I go, How ever a good knife can provide the fire to cook the food, the means to kill or make weapons to kill or traps... I know how to build a good shelter in a fair amount of environments, start a fire in a heavy rain, but I cant do these things with a gun you see.

How is a big expensive heavy bowie knife going to help you survive? Serious question. What kind of scenarios are you expecting?

Lets take a 1000 dollar knife for arguments sake. Compare it to what you can buy with that money.

What do you need?
- Defense against 2 or 4 legged creatures? Get a gun. You can find lightly used shotguns pretty cheap if you look around.
- Staying warm and dry in the woods? Get a quality sleeping bag and tent. If you live in really cold climate getting a light weight system costs money. Otherwise this is also very affordable.
- First aid? Yup get a first aid kit.
- Staying hydrated and fed? Stored food and water helps with that. Spend the rest of your money on water, food and a stove to cook on. You might bring along a swiss army knife and a can opener to open packages.

Which strategy is more likely to keep you alive? "

If you want something that fits the all round capabilities that you list then the following will all serve you perfectly well:

Becker BK15/16/17
ESEE-4
Fallkniven F1 or S1

If you really want something bigger, then I'll join the chorus for the Becker BK-7 or BK-9.
