I want an SKS

I have two Russian Tula Arsenal SKS's and both have pretty nice triggers for a battle rifle. There used to be a a guy that would sell you a tuned Russian trigger group as a repalcement, but I don't remember where I saw that.

If you can find a Russian for a decent price, (sub $350) get it.

Do a Google search for "SKS trigger work", you'll find all kinds of information. You can smooth up your own trigger, it's a kitchen table job requiring minimum tools.

Anybody know where I can find an article on making my own replacement stock?

Thanks. I'll do that. Mine are fine for the purpose, but I'm sure some can be a little rough.

check this out and then you'll REALLY want an SKS, yugo or otherwise! I am waiting on mine for my 16" bbl paratrooper that takes AK mags, ooh what fun . . . .

LOL!

no iron sights and while the workaround for shooting it lefty is umm... interesting i think i'll leave my para SKS stock.

unfortunately by right eye is jacked up, so i can only shoot lefty now, which is why the .308s are up for grabs and the only bullpup i could run would be a FN2K

start with a chunk of wood, remove everything that's not the stock! :D

i can't recall ever hearing of anyone ever doing that... that does not mean that you can't, but that until recently these were sub-$100 guns and nobody wanted to invest the time to fabricate a new stock.

the russians with laminated stocks were nice, but those bring crazy prices now.

Typical HI Excellent thread.

I have a Chinese, a Yugo M59(not the one with the launcher) a Russian and an Albanian.

The best one is the Yugo M59 but it does not have a chrome lined barrel.

The Alby and Chinese have decent triggers but the M59 and especially the Russian had HORRIBLE triggers.

I set both of those off to Kivarri and now the triggers are great.

I think the M59 is the best shooting one though, although I haven't shot the Chinese extensively.

SKS's are cool but they were much cooler when ammo was less expensive.

Still entertaining trades of a Fiddleback knife for an SKS if anyone is interested.

Or, for most any gun...

Dangit, I bought an SKS as my first rifle purchase back in the day. I don't use it anymore, but my Dad likes it too much for me to let it go! We stood in front of the guy's booth at the Sweetwater Gun Show and dryfired every SKS he had until we decided which had the best trigger - I bet I hadn't put over 200 rounds through it.

I love my Norinco SKS. Never a bit of trouble. Mines bubbad though lol....Still have the original stock and mag to put it back though. Anyone else think the prices now are freakin stupid? I got mine for less then a bill.

I'll trade him a Woodsman straight up....

I got that rifle for $40 from a pawn shop. They had it in a barrell of discount guns. It had been bubbad pretty bad, but the bore is perfect. I just bought the replacement furniture on the internet and restored it. I've got less than a bill in it...

I still got an SKS that I bought back in 1993. I have never fired it and it still is packed in the cosmoline. Its the Chinese version. The only reason I have never fired it is because I dont want to get involved in cleaning out all of that Cosmoline. It has all matching numbers. I am lucky to have it. Im not getting rid of it.

I took mine apart and threw all the metal parts in the dishwasher. The cosmoline was gone after one cycle. I then ran it again empty to remove anything that might be left in the washer. Much easier than all the other methods I've tried.

For the stock you can pack it in kitty litter and set it in your trunk or garage if its hot enough and it will help pull some of it out.
