I want my Becker!

Not hard to believe a BK&T knife is on back order...The BK2 is the only knife Ive ever had to buy a 2nd one of, just because my first one kept getting borrowed and had problems staying home. I am smart enough to make sure friends and family don't know I have a second one, If they knew, the first would never come home.

I had the same problem with knifecenter, although you can call them and they will help you out as much as they can. I had an order that was backed up, removed and added some things in the meantime, then after waiting a week and a half on some kitchen knife covers I decided to cancel the whole thing. All it took was a phone call.

I'd check out amazon or tomar's. If there is only one item holding up your order and you still want the other stuff, just cancel the items holding it up and if the leftovers aren't worth dealing with or are in stock where you buy the bk7 just buy it all there.

3:30, I ordered from Tomar's. 4:30, received and email saying items are shipped. Gotta love that work ethic.

Tomars is real fast, first call Knifecenter and find out the ETA. If it's gonna be awhile cancel it. Go Tomars, He ships the next day ish and has a rock solid rep.

+1 with Tomars. Ordered my BK-09 and 4 days later I was fondling it !!

Hmmmm.... well all THAT is kinda irritating. I ordered from Tomars on the 5th (of this month). That was a Saturday. I got an email Monday acknowledging my order, but said nothing about shipping. Two days later, still not having received a shipment notice, I took another look at the email from Tomars, and it ESTIMATED shipment on the 7th (the day I got the email). OK, no worries, I just missed that small print. And I CERTAINLY didn't expect it to ship until at LEAST the 7th, since I ordered on a Saturday. But here it is, 5:30 on Friday that 11th, and still no knife.

I have ordered from Tomars before and best I remember, the shipping was SHOCKINGLY quick. Other than being a different knife, everything is essentially the same. So I'm starting to get a little.... concerned.... worried.... angry? If there is a stock problem holding it up, I would hope to be notified, but everything was showing in stock, even the micartas. And it showed in stock on the email message. So I'm wondering what the...?

Sometimes stuff happens, though. Ordered something from REI for a Christmas gift. Watched it through the mail, and it just kinda disappeared along the way. Called up REI after waiting nearly 10 days, they sent another order, and it got here in 2 days from my call. Two MORE WEEKS later (IIRC), the first package showed up. :grumpy:

Spoke too soon, but I'm gonna leave my post above, to show what an impatient idiot looks like. :o

BK-9 came in the mail when I went by the post office not long after I posted that. As well as the micarta scales. Tomar came through like a champ; I should never have doubted him/them. Even sent a nice 2011 catalog. If you happen to read this, I humbly apologize for my post above. EXCELLENT service; the snail mail just took their time.

Well, after all the thought out and well worded emails I've sent, my last response was just as vague and generic as their first, even less informative. "We have no information from KaBar"... that is all.

I'm having the items shipped to a PO box just across the border in washington to save on the huge international shipping cost, and was hoping to only have to make one trip down. Now I'll have to either get them to hold the items until the next order arrives (hopefully they get there around the same time) or make 2 trips. Not the end of the world, but just another layer of hassle.

Tomar's shipping to Canada is around 40$ for the one BK7! which is even more than Knifecenter. I dont get it, since I've ordered tactical vests and paintball stuff, and never worried about shipping costs before. Oh well, atleast our dollar is on par.

Knifecenter must not like me. They sure don't seem to want to talk to me and work through this problem. I asked if it would be possible to remove the bk7 from the order, and instead replace it with some othe items. Also asked if I should re-place the entire order, or if I should just let them know which items I wanted to add on.
Their reply was "the bk7 will be removed, your order will ship tomorrow". It seems like any question I ask them, they just ignore and reply with the shortest response possible. I will not be buying from them again. Totally dissapointed in their lack of customer service... And common sense.

Haze, you could have driven to Warriors and Wonders in Vancouver and picked up the 7.

:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:Hey guys, I want to chime in here about how lately it seems that some vendors or maybe I should say the employees of the vendors are seemingly falling off the wagon. I decided to buy a few knives recently and I had done biz with Tom over at Chestnut Ridge before. On previous purchases, I was able to speak directly with him and all had gone well. So I was going to go with this outfit again. To put, I was interested in purchasing 1- Ontario RD6 Signature, 2- Becker Magnum Camp, & 3- Bark River Bravo One. Just one thing though; the sale was predicated upon getting the Bravo One with Ranger Green G10 scales and a green sheath. Chestnut recently had the green Bravo listed, but suddenly it was no longer available on their website. So I called and spoke with an employee. I informed him what I was interested in and he replied that he would check on the availability and get right back with me. I waited a few days and in the meanwhile shot them an email with my request just in case someone else may be attentive. After several anxious days [mainly because of wanting the Signature RD6 and it may sell out. Mind you, he told me that it was available for purchase and even which limited edition number; so I was ready to pull the trigger right then], I called again. I was told again that he would get right back to me. :jerkit: Now I am hellishly frustrated at this obvious ineptness.:grumpy: I thought everyone, especially nowadays, was paying attention to sales. He was either completely unconcerned or just not being attentive. Now what we have is a dissolved three knife sale; all because of no communication on a simple green kydex sheath. Go figure??? After a couple more calls and speaking with the same person, I am now told that the Signature RD6 is no longer available. I chided him. I am tired of getting sluggish apologies, just because they are not doing their jobs. Another example, just after telling this guy at Chestnut that I'll do business elsewhere, I call Knife Works about a CS Trailmaster. I ask if they have it in stock. They said yes. I asked again just to make sure. "Yes we have it." So to avoid waiting several days and shipping costs, I drive the 30 miles to pick it up. When I arrive I'm told, "Oh...uhm..uhm...yeah, we have in stock, but it's just not in our store here." Now their warehouse is in town that I had just driven from. I said that I would pay for here and pick it up there. "Oh no, we can't do that. It has to be shipped back here and then we'll ship it to you."[talk about inefficiency and redundancy] You will have it by Monday". I wait around for the driver to show, but Big Brown does not have in their possession. I call Knife Works for the tracking #, only to be told by another person, "Are you the one who ordered the CS Trailmaster?" "Yes, that's me." " Well, I forgot to order it, so now you'll get the next day." I go "dammit". She says, "Well does that put you in a pickle?" "Why yes that puts me in a pickle!!!!" I am waiting here and need to be at an appointment, but I don't like the idea of a nine inch knife sitting on my front porch!" "Oh, I am sorry". Yeah right. Thanks, but no thanks. I am tired of youngsters who are supposed to be taking care of business, but are really f'ing off with my time and money. And they are supposed to be in business. Those are two accounts that have been DELETED..... I just bet that Tom @ Chestnut and Roger @ Knife Works are not aware that sales are being compromised because of this unacceptable behavior. Hey kiddies, do the dang job right or go play videos somewhere, which is probably what they are doing while not twittering.... or fbooking..... :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:.. u got just once to screw with my time or money... people need to realize business goes at the speed of a keystroke... either 'get 'er done.... CORRECTLY & WITH EXPEDIENCE or 'your mule might get constipated and the farm shuts down...... sure I buy American... but when we are entrusting the kids to get the business right......uhm... I don't know. And this is not necessarily stereotyping, but we're always complaining about Asian wares and products taking over our marketplace, but I bet I don't have to tell them twice and wait thrice to get it right. Justified GRUMBLINGS out LOUD....

Could it be that no one knows how to do business over the phone anymore? I mean, I called one place to ask them about an ALICE pack, and they told me to go to their ebay listing to order it. They wouldn't take the order over the phone. And I've had that happen at least one other time.

Not that the rant isn't justified. Just wondering if that is where the problem stems.

I hear ya guys! I finally got a reply saying "let me know what items you would like to add, I've put the shipment aside, disregard the previous email that it will ship tomorrow".

My entire email said nothing but "can I edit the order, remove the bk7 and add on some other items." apparently they took this as "remove the bk7, ship everything else". It wasn't until I told them how frustrating it is to send three emails asking the same questions, and get no answer to any of them. Just do what you want I guess, don't worry about the frustrated customer you're stringing along... Hopefully I can get this sorted out tonight, and get my knives out of their damn, ass-backwards warehouse.

I ordered a couple of knives from Chestnut a few days ago, and was told they shipped same day. I have sent a couple of emails trying to confirm the shipping addresses, since they were going to my brothers and not me. Nothing back from them. The automatic order email I got says "Reply to this email if you have questions" but apparently means something else entirely. First order through them, and nothing. (I also used their contact form on their website as well. So far, nothing.)

So basically I have to wait to make sure the items ship to the right place, and if they don't pay a ridiculous amount to overnight the knives to my brothers before they ship out. Not thrilled, and while I am not going to say I am not going to do business with CRKS again, I am certainly going to be eyeballing other places a little harder.

Haze240,

If you have ever dealt with Bushcraft Canada (located in BC) you will see the other side of the coin. Excellent service, although, to date, he doesn't carry Becker products. Maybe you should email and suggest it, and I will do the same.

Doc

Wow, my order JUST left the warehouse yesterday. Not dealing with these fools at knifecenter again. "old fashioned personal service" my ass. When finally did get a chance to call them, I was transferred back and forth, put on hold, and could barely get 2 words in about what happened before they kept telling me "well it will ship on Monday". No apology or admittance to taking nearly a month to ship an order. Ridiculous.

I'm largely of the same mind about CRKS. I've been thoroughly unimpressed with their service. I FINALLY got to talk to a guy there today about an order that I had placed last WEDNESDAY that still was showing I hadn't paid. He actually took 5 minutes out of his day to do a little digging and found out they had actually been paid, but it hadn't been allocated to my order (don't ask, partly my fault, but I've never had the problem before with ... well, pretty much EVERY OTHER VENDOR on the INTERNET THAT I'VE EVER DEALT WITH!). So supposedly he got it straightened out... but the last time I check a few hours later, my account was still showing the same status. We'll see how this goes..... If it ships out so that I get it this week, I'll be surprised, but will probably do business with them again, IF that happens. They are cheap and have a good variety. As long as I don't get stiffed, I can live with it... probably.

I've heard a lot of mixed reports on knifecenter. If they have what you want, and there are no special circumstances, things go OK. If there are any complications, it turns into a clusterf**k.

Meant to add, if at all possible, I always deal with knifeworks. I've done probably ... heck, probably well over $1,000 of business with them (a lot for me) in everything from Victorinox to Maxpedition, and I have never, EVER, had one thing bad to say about them.

I will not order anything from the KnifeCenter. They will only sell kitchen knives to NY. At first thier website said NY State, then they changed it to NY City. After it said NY City, i tried to order from them & was told "sorry, kitchen knives only". Even though the guy that just killed like 3-5 people used a kitchen knife. I have purchased 3x from Chestnut & all 3 times received my order in 2-3 days. I am expecting my BK-7 & BK-9 from them on thursday. Can't wait.

Yeah, everyone knows that the kitchen knife is the most deadly and most-used knife for real "wetwork". ;) But seriously, it is a fairly well-known statistic that the kitchen knife is used more in murders than any other knife, or at least that WAS the statistic a year or so ago. I really doubt that has changed. But you might consider blaming your own politicians for a company being reluctant to sell anything but the most generic and defensible knives to an environment like NY. And particularly Mayor Bloomers who seems intent on going outside his jurisdiction to make the world a safer place for criminals. But I digress more than I should outside the political forum, but I just couldn't stop. I don't blame you necessarily for your refusing to do business with Knifecenter. And I think that reason might just save you the heartache of having a better reason to not order from them.

I think I've only ever ordered one thing from them, and that was the small tools that fit in the scales or corkscrews of Victorinox knives. In that case, it was a matter of putting a money order and self-addressed envelope inside an envelope, and they turned around that order in less about 10 days, including a weekend. But all they had to do was open the envelope, take the money, put the merchandise in my supplied envelope, and drop it in any mailbox. It doesn't get much simpler than that.

I will say that once I got someone at CRKS that I could work with to figure out the problem, they turned around and got the merchandise in the mail in less than 24 hours, which isn't bad. It would have been better if their system was like everyone else's and didn't choke at the slightest provocation, causing the issue that held everything up for 5 days in the first place.
