I want to buy a Delica but..

Im sure im the minority but the bradley is the only spyderco i have handled and not liked strictly because of ergos of the handle and lock. The hollow ground m4 is nice

If your a spyderco fan the delica is a must have !!!! The gayle bradly will come and go but the delica sticks around for a reason ;)

I don't really like the looks of a waved Delica. Would the Delica be a good rear pocket knife? Something I could slide in next to my wallet? That way I could carry the Para 2 and the Delica? Hmmmm

i only carry my delica as a rear-pocket knife. the sage 2 sees most of the front-pocket time

Very strong lock !!! It's a spyderco lockback and not much different from a triad lock !! If I remember correctly sal has said that cold steel got their lock geometry from spyderco !!!

I'm not a fan of Cold Steel but this just isn't true. The Triad lock adds a stop pin which both positive and negative blade forces are transfered to. The average lock back has no stop pin and just is not as strong. The compression and Triad are 2 of the strongest locks out there (with the AXIS being right there with them) and the back lock is going to be quite a bit weaker than either one. However, that's not to say the Spyderco back lock is weak by any means and it will handle more than what a knife should be asked to do. It's just not up to the same level as the other 2 in terms of brute strength but more than enough for what a knife does.

I never said it was as strong! I said it's similar , which it is... the main difference being the Stop pin ;) .... The point was that spyderco lockbacks are very strong !

I believe the Delica could make a good rear-pocket knife. Thin profile and light weight. If you decide to carry the Delica as a back up, it might be wise to carry a full serrated edge version. That way you have the Para 2 for slicing and the Delica for more aggressive cutting.

I've never been a fan of serrated edges. Although I've never used Spydercos serrations, I just really like a plain edge over serrations.

Frankly, if you're used to the ergos of the PM or Manix (with the finger choils), the Delica might seem very small in the hand and uncomfortable. My hands aren't small, but they're not what you'd call meathooks either, and the Delica doesn't fit me at all. The Caly 3 / Sage / UKPK fits me perfectly, even though they're the same size of the Delica...because those have the finger choil which the Delica does not.

If you want something thin, light, and cheap, but will fit your hand like you expect it to, I'd recommend a Dragonfly or a UKPK FRN. Or an Native FRN if a bit more thickness is OK.

I find that my waved Delica gets a lot of pocket time, really great little knife. The only knife that gives it much competition for ideal EDC is my Caly3 ZDP.

See if this makes any sense. I've really been enjoying my Sage 1 and 2; I pull 'em out of the box, open them, marvel at the fit and finish, then gently wipe them down with a soft cloth and back in the box they go. I do this because if they get so much as a scratch, they'll lose a bunch of potential trade in value. And that's kind of the problem with a higher end knife. You really need to decide whether to use it as it was designed, or to not use it and protect its value. My Delica 4 FFG? It's a great lightweight EDC all on its own, but it's low respective cost kind of liberates me to use it for all the tasks I wanted an EDC for in the first place. And if it does get bounced around or scratched up a bit, I'm not losing any sleep over it. Plus the blade shape, size, and handle colors don't seem to raise much in the way of eyebrows with John Q. Public. YMMV.

Between my Delica 4 FFG and my Manix 2 the Manix definitely sees more pocket time but I will never regret buying the Delica. The colors are awesome and when I am around non-knife people they definitely are more at ease with it. It's a great little blade when you just want a light knife that will still get the job done. There's actually a lot of days I carry both with one of them in the back pocket or a cargo pocket. There's always the option to take off the clip (if it bothers you) and slip it in a pocket too. At the end of the day even if it just sits in a drawer it's still fun to look at and fondle almost any Spyderco :)

I can honestly say that I am the same way with my Para 2 as you are with your Delica. I've been cutting lots of stuff with it and I'm not really too concerned with messing it up since I can always get another one. Now my sprint run manix 2 on the other hand doesn't see much use (although I have used it in the past).
