I want to customize my farmer....

So I want to customize a SAK farmer with a one hand opening blade and scissors.

Do you guys have any tips? What is the best way to take this knife apart?
Do you have any suggestions as to where I could find a blade to fit the bill?
Any suggestions on how to modify the existing blade?

EDIT: BONUS if it has a pocket clip.

Scibeer over on KF has been known to mod some Farmers. May want to check him out.

Well it's riveted together so to get it apart you could drill them out. The trick is drilling enough of the peened part away without messing up the knife itself. I'm certain that it can be done, but how many knives need to be messed up to get it right is anyone's guess.

Maybe you could start with some cheapo slip joints that many of us have laying around gathering dust.

After you get it apart you'll have to get new pins and peen them over. I've never done it, so don't take this as advice from an expert. Good luck!

I'd second talking to Scibeer over at knife forums as he's a wealth of knowledge on modding SAKs and has been great with giving tips, etc. Here's a Farmer he modded for me at the bottom of both pics. Felinevet and him did a special run of HA III Alox scales for the Farmer and I got him to add the scissors and pocket clip to mine.

I think you'd have to grind a one hand opening blade from scratch. I know of no Farmer sized model with one.

Scissors can be borrowed from any similar sized SAK, but you'll probably have to cannibalize another farmer for a back spring with the correct rivet placements.

There's a SAK subforum over at knifeforums.com, there's people there (particularly Scibeer) who have experience modding SAK's and can give you some advice.

i also recomend Scibeer.... he does great work...:thumbup: though i don't know if he is taking any orders at the moment... he recently moved and i don't know if he has his shop up and running yet... he lives just afew minutes away from me...

here's my custom/modded Farmer....

i love it.... it is almost the perfect EDC knife.... he cranked this one out for me in about 15 minutes, while i was at his house one day...
