...but not to just anybody. About a year ago, I was playing a Disc Golf tournament, and a young kid about 14 years old in my group was sharpening a stick into a spear with his classic Buck-styled flea-market quality knife. We got to talking, and he seemed very mature and showed a true interest in the many different knives I was describing to him. Just the way he was oohing and ahhing over my Sebenza was amusing. I said, you know, If I had it on me, I woud give you a Benchmade knife right here on the spot. Unfortunatly the only nice knife I had that day was the Sebenza (I cant afford to give it away). Anyways, after talking knives for the next 2 straight hours (BTW it was all him asking questions, not me rambling on and on), I decided that I should give that knife to someone anyhow. Hopefully I can find a young man like him that would appreciate the gesture.

What I am looking for is someone that can pass this Benchmade on from me to a young man that might appreciate it FULLY, and learn to take care of it. I

Obviously, money has to be an issue for the person wanting it. Maybe someone has the same desire to give a high-quality knife to a young kid to introduce them to high-quality at a young age, but can't afford to do so.

Keep in mind, that as far as credibility goes, I am looking for responses from long time members on this forum with (what I consider to be) high post counts.

I will read each and every post no matter how long it is until I find someone that I truly feel has good intentions on this whole deal.

Oh yeah. Here is a pic.

EDIT: Please don't be offended if I don't respond to your post or pm's. I have a feeling there will be alot of (sob) stories, but I have a gift of sensing honesty and sincereness.

I know just a kid. He's only 19 but he has an amazing grasp on quantum theory and does math everyday that makes my head spin. This kid is going to discover something amazing in his lifetime. He wants a good knife... but is a poor physics student. His Bday is this month.

Too bad I was planning on giving him my Beretta W/T Avenger. :D

I too have no use for this knife. It is an EXCELLENT knife for any of those new guys who are interested. I just want to commend you for the gesture.

i hardly qualify I suppose, but I'm a 20 year old broke college student. I have a slowly growing collection of stuff I've gotten good deals on and I've always wanted a benchmade since i handled my first folder like 6 years ago, but I've just never had the money. Knives are another hobby that i've just simply rabidly taken to, the other being cars. I got into the mechanical aspects of automobiles about the same age (14) but have recently begun to see similarities between what makes me like a car and what makes me enjoy a really good knife - solidity, usability, clearly perceptible quality as well as the feeling that a real person put their heart and soul into design every last minute detail to be the best it can. I've always admired their innovations in the field but I've had to spend money on boring stuff like books and tuition.

Yeah, waaaaambulance for me

nice looking knife though! Glad to see it's gotten some real use on it!

I am glad to see that there are a few nice people on this forum (wink wink) and i think what your doing is a great thing. I am a college grad student and have recently taken on more of a mentorship role for the undergrads. BTW i do theatre design. In this role one main thing i said people need is a good set of tool and with that came a good multi tool...they seem to appreciate some one in the field instilling some wisdom on the all mighty leatherman...I hope a great person gets this knife. I would recommend a boy scout or former scout, just because i know we learned to appreciate the knife very well... I know this will be hard to pick but, good luck

nice gesture there; I have enough of this type of tactical right now, and the only knives I'm giving away anytime soon are slipjoints, to some of our young scouts. I'm sure there are a few folks out there who will qualify.

thx - cpr

I'm 14 and a young man :), but the knife probably won't get through Aussie customs lol.

To appreciate a knife like the one pictured you need someone who sees the beauty of a well used/maintained knife. To most people this knife is old/used/scratched/etc but the one swho can appreciate this knife FULLY are the knife lovers only (IMHO). This is because a knife lover will see the Benchmade (brand quality) with Axis (engineering feat and safety), good steel and character from use. I personally like user knives and intend to transform all mine to users. No selling of any of my 'family' if I can help it.

Basically I feel that there may be too few young man who can appreciate it FULLY. IMO the best people to FULLY a knife with the name of a god are only seasoned knife-lovers.

Just my opinion. I'm in Malaysia and this is better off for someone in the US. Not being presumptuous. Let us know who gets the blade. It's not very often that little gestures like this occurs nowadays...

I'm young, have very few knives, DEFINITELY appreciate a knife like that, but the reasons for the few knives isn't any reason that may overshadow any of the other possible recipients. That's a nice knife, I'm sure it will spark a great interest in knives for whoever receives it, and a great gesture that seems to happen surprisingly often around here.

Yes, I understand the used and beat up thing, but the funny part is, this knife is smoother and better feeling in the hand than it was 5 years ago when it was new. I used it in a cabinetry shop for 3 years. I smoothed the edges of the scales that the back of you hand scrapes against when you put your hand in your pocket, but didn't take very much material off. I used it about 4 different times to puncture the sides of 55 gallon steel drums for airation (the tip was very blunt after a few stabbings), and I took the tip to a grinding stone(with lubrication/coolant) on the spine side of the blade to get the tip somewhat pointy again, but not too extreme. The wear and tear on the black finish is all from natural occurences. I never purposley wore it off for a vintage look or something silly like that. The opening and closing of this benchmade has extremely smooth action, and has the same solid lockup as brand new. When the blade is closed, it still has the same resistance to opening as when new. The pocket clip bent backwards a few times from it catching on the seatbelt of the forklift. I heat treated it properly to bend it back to normal (actually it is a bit "grippier" to prevent accidental loss).

All in all, I feel that if someone can look past the cosmetic details of the piece and appreciate the rock-solidness of it, then they truley deserve the gift.

I was thinking about aluminum-oxide blasting the black finish off the blade followed with a slightly brushed finish to bring back the visual appeal of the blade. Does anyone feel like that is a good idea?

Hmmm...

I was just thinking this would make a great project for someone a lot of time (and silicon carbide 600-1500 grit paper) to do a hand satin finish. 154cm polishes alright. Either way, you're doing a cool thing. One reason I have very few knives is I keep giving them away :D

That blade looks just like the blade on my new old BM 9050 auto minus a chip. I've almost completely gotten the chip out of the blade the previous owner put in it. The old 73X series is hard to beat, good luck fellows!

Can you remove the black without removing all of the Benchmade markings? If not, I personally wouldn't do it.

Congrats to whoever gets it :D Looks like an awesome knife!

I got just the kid in mind 15 years old, Eagle Scout, avid bike racer, he has Diabetes and has one of those pump that's attached all the time.

He's currently dating my daughter and when he found out I collect knives we've spent much time discussing the pros an cons of various knive, locks and styles.

I've given a few knives already nothin' garbage but either older well made folders or heavily used better blades I've picked up on ebay or at yard sales, I could go on all day about him but I'll stop here.

Hopefully he fits and I fit your criteria, one last thing, he's got a birthday commin' up end of this month, beginnin' next.
