I want to learn how to be a BladeSmith

Ya know Tai. Your ABS bashing needs to stop. If it's okay for you to bash the ABS , then it would logically be okay for bashing any other groups that one may not approve of.

So cut it the hell out :D please. This is not the platform.

I would not allow folks to go on a Knife Makers Guild bash either. Understand what I mean ?

Mark

O.K. I guess that one was just a little bit harsh.

I'll go edit it... :)

... I guess I just like picking on them, sorry.

There is allot of crossover between knives and guns. I find that if you can attain the knowledge and skills to make a knife that you also can make a simple gun. Mills and lathes for me anyway are a must. A cummunity college machine shop class got me underway.

I think Pima college in Tucson still has some classes in blacksmithing and knifemaking, along with the jewelry program. A lot of colleges and universities have a metalsmithing program within the art department... it's all related.

The ABS school is fine really. The JS and MS ratings are not my type of thing, but they do have some really good teachers,... and it is a good place to start. :)

Just thought I'd throw something in. There are 2 schools in NC. The ABS school is also taught at Haywood Community Collage in Clyde NC. Contact Bill Wiggens http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48317
Also at Montgomery County Community Collage in Troy NC, they offer 2&3 day classes from some of the best makers in the country you can check the schedule here : http://www.ncknifeguild.org/ . MCCC also has an NRA gunsmithing course.
I would also recommend Ed Caffery's video on Basic Forging. Best money I spent.
Also attend any Hammer-ins you can. You get great instruction at a very, very cheap price if any. The last one I attended I got to spend 1 on 1 time with James Batson, Greg Neely and Shawn Ellis. 3 days with those guys for $35.00. Doesn't get any better than that.
I wish you all the best on this journey. This is a good place to start right here on this forum.

There used to be a gunsmith down here that was a dang good knifemaker in addition to being a freakin awesome gunsmith and a serious IPSC shooter. He's moved on, from what I gathered he's like the shooting version of Kung Fu on some sort of spiritual firearm journey. Yes, I'm serious.
