I want to make a machete sheath out of PVC pipe. Any thoughts?

If weight is an issue, why not drill a couple holes in the sheath, use a wire saw to take out large sections of the sheath, the weight savings might make a difference and if you draw a pattern, you could end up with a pretty cool looking skeletonized sheath as well.

I could have sworn I put a post in here last night.

HeavyHanded, thanks.

Anyway, Weight is not really an issue but I also don't want a sheath that weighs 5 pounds.

Interesting idea, using PVC. Couldn't hurt to give it a try. Be safe.
Kydex would be sexy though.

Quick unsolicited opinion... :) Cloth sheaths are the BOMB when you are hiking. When you are not using the sheath you can put it in your pocket. Rigid sheaths spend hours smacking your leg when you are walking.

What kind of cloth do you use? I am thinking of making a sheath for a big bowie of mine.

Did you make it yet? I am interested how it turned out. If you want something lighter than sch. 40, try some DB 120, much thinner walls and a lot lighter.

Yes, it is finished but I haven't had time to put up a thread about it yet. It worked quite well and I am pleased.

Pics or it didn't happen dang it!;)

Just a thought......but a few years ago a guy I know on another forum went to a local awning/tent making shop & had a canvas sheath made for a machete.
IIRC it was pretty cheap & he got it made the way he wanted.

Ask and you shall receive!!!

This is actually the second sheath I made for a Marble's parang that didn't come with a sheath

Belt loop arrangement. It looks complicated but it had to be that way so that it wouldn't get cut.

Knuckle guard.

Original sheath with wrap.

Back side with belt loops. I am going to have redo this because the blade is slowly cutting/wearing through the paracord. I think I can rig something up with the wrap.

Another knuckle guard.
