I used hot apple cider and soaked the blade until black, then wiped with a rag until bluish. Theni used dabs of hot sauce (garlic chili sauce) and left it over night. Washed it with soapy water and mineral oiled the blade.

sweet looking patina.... and you say garlic chili sauce wouldent happen to be "drooling devil's garlic chili sauce" would it. lol

ill post pics of my buck 110 nockoff when i re do the patina.

i did this one just yesterday! it was on 1095. i soaked it in a mixture of vinegar and lemon juice, and then put mustard on it to make the lined

josh that blade looks sweet how'd you get the line like that???

I'm guessing the line might indicate differential hardening in the steel. The spine and part of the flats may have been covered in clay forming the pattern we see on the blade now.

Of course, Josh might chime in and say I'm totally off! :D

That's my "hamon" patina. :D

It's a standard heat treated blade, but then I gave it a vinegar soak for an hour, and then I take some mustard and glob it on the edge. Leave that on for a half hour and the mustard shows up darker right along that line.

Not only was I wrong, but I feel somehow bamboozled!

(okay, I just wanted an excuse to say "bamboozled", still a cool pseudo-hamon effect, Josh!)
