I want to try a different brand.

I bought a Cold Steel Voyager a few months ago and i must say it is one of the best knives iv purchased. superb quality and strength at 60$ !!

Can't go wrong with an Ultratech or Troodon, everyone needs a MT OTF in their collection. Or maybe a Scrapyard or Swamp Rat fixed blade. Lionsteel makes some fine folders and so does Fox. Citadel and Falkniven are also fine blades.

Hello Stephen -

I admit I did not read all of the replies here on purpose.

Knives to us are like ice cream - there are hundreds of flavors and I can't tell you which will taste good to you before you taste them for yourself.

There are many brands out there that you have not tasted - not to mention the many custom makers that might strike your fancy.

I like Benchmades and Spyderco - along with many other brands. It really boils down to what type of knife you like - and then try that kind of knife from the makers and manufacturers that make them -

It's a nice time to be a blade junkie. Enjoy.

best

Go do yourself a favor a get a nice Benchmade afck. Then keep buying more Benchmade because you won't want to stop! Also check out the 930 kulgera and 635 mini skirmish.

Emerson. Not as nice fit and finish wise as a Spydie, ZT, or Benchmade, but one heck of a utilitarian blade that's very well made overall.

Check out the benchmade barrage 581. It's a great knife for the value, it has M390 steel a partial aluminum scales, assisted open, axis lock ect all for under 200. then you can buy another knife with the money you save. Maybe a scrapyard scrapivore or ESEE Izula maybe?

If I were just trying out new-to-me manufacturers, I'd start here. All of these are what the companies are known for and they all fit within my "willing-to-carry" size & weight requirements.

Benchmade: 710 (any flavor)
ESEE: 3 or 4 for FBs
Emerson: mini-Commander or mini-CQC15
Becker: any of the full-sized FBs (not BK11 or BK14)

Don't know anything about TOPS or Microtech. A couple ofcustom FBs are also in you rprice range. You might go to the maers' subforum here and get someone to make a FB just for you.

Don't forget about Kershaw! ZT's bigger sister company. They have some really cool folding knives coming out like the Rick Hinderer design; the Cryo, the Knockout is really neat too. If you want something different, I like Opinel traditional folders, cheap with a ton of history.
