youre lucky. In Australia if you ask the cops to check for prints they tell you you watch too many moives. Apparently its too exspensive and they dont have the time.

My irreplaceable early warning alert system is a little Yorkie Terrier. When she hears a noise she will bark and come running to me because she knows I will pick her up to "go see". I swear she knows that home security is her honor bound duty and takes it dead seriously. What a delight to have such a fine partner.

* Thanks everyone; your support means alot to me. I've got so many conflicting thoughts about what to do right now that I probably will just let the police take the lead for the time being. My main concern is that the burglar's friends will see what he took and want some weapons of their own, and decide to come back; I need to guard against that. I would install all kinds of alarms, etc., but I don't even have a job right now, so can't afford that or even to insure what I have. As unpleasant at it is, the next incident will most likely be decided by violence.

* It seems that many people have experienced a burglary in their lifetimes, so perhaps I should take mine in stride. I'm glad to hear that some of them, like T1mpani's, did get resolved.

* I guess what gets me even more than any financial loss is that I've tried to be the temporary custodian of objects of cultural/historical value, but that those objects have passed onto someone who couldn't care less about culture and history. That they will now be lost to our collective knowledge really diminishes all of us. :(
 
Bars on the window is perhaps a relatively inexpensive way of reducing the points of entry into your place.
 
I had that experiance once. The pathology report indicated that a .45 slug passed through the perps left aorta.
Shooting them in the head also cuts down on appeals.
