My girlfriend didn't want to carry it as a neck knife for long, because she was concerned that it would be harder to get to and that the lanyard could catch in her waistline or belt and pull it out while driving, leaving the point pretty much destined to poke her. The sheath does feel pretty mild, luckily she loves it as a pocket knife, and the sheath works beautifully for it.

I cannot speak for the SPEW but i do have the minimalist and I have not have a problem with it hanging from my neck while driving and taking off the seat belt.
