I was just given some food for thought.

Dave he obviously wasn't a knife guy.You could tell him the story about the evolution of the 110 over the years and it would probably be like talking to the wall.I know guys that spend thousands on Golf, yet you couldn't pay me to chase a little white ball around.

I'm not quite sure what I really think about it yet, but it did give me something to think about. I had an aquaintance over and we were in my office. I have an oak display case in there with about 30 or so 110's (LE's, customs, etc.) inside it. He asked me about them and then said " That reminds me of my wife's Barbie collection. They are all the same, just dressed different".

Hmmmmm................................................:(

LMAOROTF!

Dave,

I hear that more often than not, when I show my man cave off to outsiders (outsiders are non-knife collectors). They say "they all look the same", "why do you need so many", then some just look at me like they are making a mental note to never turn their backs on me again! LOL. My wife is one of those folks, yet if I open her closet there are more pairs of shoes than she could wear in 2 months and never wear the same pair twice, same thing with her apparel, but, I bet it would take her 6 months (to each his/her own).

So Dave, no Hmmmmmm......................about it. If it still makes you happy brother, enjoy it. You know there is a reason we call ourselves "Buck Nuts" ;)

Hmmmmm................................................:([/QUOTE]

Yep and also makes them special .

Years ago, a co-worker of mine, who knew I had an interest in knives, was quite proud of one he'd bought for himself. He brought it to work one day, in it's own padded box with hinged lid, to show to me. It was a genuine FRANKLIN MINT original, with 'simulated' bone/stag handles, complete with a graphic of a deer, bear or some other such wildlife on them. Very brightly polished (& lacquered) brass bolsters, and whatever mystery steel they use for the blade.

I had to bite my lip, while nodding in approval of his 'very nice' knife.

But, I still reminded myself, if he likes it, that's all that matters. To each his own.

Well my friend, if you like them and get enjoyment out of them, they are valuable.

Just at the very beginning of my accumulating, a friend of mine told me everyone collects something(he collects pharmacist's mortar and pestle sets). I never felt the need but I have gotten a great deal fun from accumulating Bucks. He(your friend) doesnt understand the subtle significance of the knives. I have people look at my early 110's and they look alike to them because they dont know to, and dont have the understanding to see the differences. I hesitate to use the word ignorant but it is fitting-lacking information and understanding.

If it bugs you too much and you cant stand to have them in your house anymore, you have my address, you can send them ALL to me.:D

I'll have to build an addition to house them though:p

1. Good reason to own a stun gun.
2. Better than buying season tickets to watch convicted felons do something with a ball. After a year of that you have spent $XXXX and have nothing to show for it except memories of watching felons do something with a ball.

In the end we make choices and spend out money as we see fit, that makes America.

:thumbup:Thanks guys, I needed this! I knew I could depend on the Buck guys to perk me up. The aquaintance's (notice I didn't say friend ;)) words made me stop and think about what I was doing, but with all your support, I'm back feeling good about it.

The off topic bit is that with all the "doll" talk, I thought of this one and just had to share. Years back my Wife and my Mother got interested in making porcelin dolls and attended some classes to learn how to do them. My wife did one for ME and surprised me with it. I guess the old gals at the studio where she did the work were scandalized as the doll is 24" tall and anatomically correct! My wife used one of her nighties to make the outfit and some of her jewlery to do the head dress and belt.

She's a real dish! I should have added a Yellowhorse knife to the picture, she looks like an Indian Princess.

Wow, she is a hot little doll! You need to get one of the DY Buck pins from Ron, then put it in her hand.....sweet.

Whats funny to me is that no one said" If you decide to quit, send your knives to me" Everyone rose to the good of the situation.

America, ain't it great. Oh and Dave, just send the 300s......

If you let the comments of one person, who you say isn't a true friend, make you question the validity of your past time, maybe you yourself also question its value. It makes no difference what people think. I don't live to please anybody but my wife and family. If you really stop and think about collecting. Collecting doesn't make sense. You spend money on whatever it is your collecting, for what, to say you have one. Is the purpose to pass them on to loved ones or to sell at some point or to just take up space. I do it because it make me happy and gives me something interesting to do with my time. I enjoy talking to others that enjoy collecting knives, its like a treasure hunt that lasts a life time, and when i'm gone who cares where they go. Hopefully they will go to a person who cares for them as much as me but I'll be dead and if they go in a big hole in the ground and rust away, so be it... I had fun, if it aint fun any more do something else.

The doll looks like some ancient goddess. And 24" tall, nice work.

About the Barbie collection, 110's aren't all the same, just dressed different. 110s have different blades (DP, clip), different steels, different bolsters (bare head, full, brass, NS), different artistry. Barbies are much the same, just dressed differently, though I think they do have ethnic Barbies. Craftsmanship goes into LEs, & customs, but not much craftsmanship that goes into a mass produced Barbie.

In either case, you collect because you enjoy it. You do it for your own pleasure and you share your interest with like minded people. You can't please everyone and not all people share similar tastes. I think it's a bit rude to rank down another's hobby, but then, maybe the guy was jealous. You obviously have a great collection.

Collecting itself is an activity of accumulating what you like and if your taste is consistent you're bound to have collectibles that share certain degree of similarities.

In fact a collection too diversed would just look like junk pile.

That YAHOO should have felt honored that you invited him in to see your collection. The people that paid to get into the show were thrilled to see David Martins Buck Knife display.

Hey Hey now, easy there, I resemble that. :D:D:) One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Dang, I am not a member of the Barbie clan, all I have is a 'Betsy Wetsy' Mini 14. I guess I will just have to hold everyones coat...300

They look equally, but actually they different. Who knows to that it is not necessary to explain, and who doesn't know - to that to explain is useless

Sorry for my mad english
