Is it just me or does g-10 wear down over time? My older 806 isn't quite as grippy as my new one. Is this due to it slowly wearing away, or is it just that this perticular knife is slightly different?

I have a Benchmade (Emerson Emerson) designed CQC7 with G10. EDC it for 3 or 4 years. The same thing happened to me. The G10 had a texture to it that wore off over time. However, it still takes a good grip. Not sure this is normal, but I had the same experience.

It also may have oil and dirt on it. If you scrub the sides with some soap and a brush of some kind, I bet some grippiness will return.

The G10 on my older Military folder originally was quite grippy.

It's not 'slick' yet, but it's getting there.

Anything with enough friction on it is going to smooth out eventually. One thing I suggest is to thoroughly clean and scrub your g10...it may be all in my head, but it feels like it brings the texture back out again. Maybe there's something that sticks to G10 gradually. It certainly won't hurt your g10, at least--it'll come out looking much better.

I haven't had a g10 folder but maybe six months, but it has performed well. I cleaned up four or five months in and it looked like new again.

When the G10 on my Para starts to loose its tenacious grip I scrub the hell out of it with a 3M scouring pad (be careful of the blade and clip). The handle always comes out clean and has that new rough feel to the G10:thumbup: I actually like the way G10 ages, the black aged to a nice lighter black, not grey at all, and the G10 lost just enough roughness to stop tearing up my pockets and became easier on my hands.

Spyderco uses their special G10, though (it's rougher when new).

Wish all G10 was like that.

I figured I'd media blast G10 when it gets too smooth. But, I haven't had the opportunity yet. So, that's just an idea.
