I went to a Gun and Knife show today, just to look...

I took some time today to visit a local gun and knife show not really looking for anything, just to browse. Today seemed very busy compared to other recent shows, there was actually ammo for sale at (semi)reasonable prices.

Lately I've become interested in collecting Kershaw knives, I've never really searched them out at shows before, but today I did and I found a dealer who used to have a physical store he closed ~5 years ago and he's been going to gun and knife shows to sell off the last of his product. The best way to describe these knives is new - old stock.

I am amazed that he's been moving these all over the region for years, I think he was amazed that I showed an interest and he was very shocked when I bought five of his knives.

Here is what I came home with:

1595 - Speed Bump
1745 - Lahar - or at least I think it is a Lahar, but isn't the Lahar supposed to be labeled as a 1750?
1730 - Groove
1745 - ENER-G2
1720 - Junk Yard Dog - "First Production" 1 of 500

I had a good day...!

Whenever I start a post like "went to a gun and knife show just to look..." it usually ends with "Now I have a second mortgage on my house".

Kershaw is the first assist knife I ever bought, and edc'd it for a long time. Nice knives maaaaan.

As I was reading that, I was sure that you were going to say that he had a stack of purple Blurs. :D

I think I got a bargain - he started with the 2007-2008 prices on the boxes, and before I could ask, reduced them by 20%. I know I've been looking for a couple of them in particular, the Lahar and the Groove, and I've not seen them anywhere online for what I paid for them. I'm not sure what the going rate for an original JYD FPR is, but I'm sure it is more than I paid.

My girlfriend asked if I "had to have more knives" so I reminded her that my purchase was less than her last splurge - and mine will still be around in a couple of years!

That prompted my post - had to share with someone who understood why I was excited... lol

OK - I'm trying to update with in-line images, I've used my Flickr in the past to share links, but it looks like they changed their settings and won't let you direct-link anymore. Once I figure that out I'll do a direct link - I don't like the "attached thumbnails" view.

My gosh, you went all out. I'm excited when I buy ONE new knife. Happy for you, BTW.

Hi Tom! Had that been the case, this thread would be over in the Exchange and I'd be listing them for sale! I may be new to Kershaw collecting, but I've heard about the "Purple Blurs." I saw one go for auction recently and I bid on it it, but when the prices reached a certain point I dropped out and decided not to get between a Blur fanatic and their "Purple!"

Thanks, Sonnydaze - Yeah, I did... I keep telling myself this is my birthday present to myself and they needed a new home after 5ish years of going from show to show with no one taking them home, poor lil' Kershaws...

Hi Chester22 - how ever did you guess that? ;) Yes, it was the Dixie that was in town today...

Nice score! Last couple shows I've been to had nothing but low end junk. Hopefully this is a positive sign

Make sure to visit Della Knives. Gary is a cool guy.. Only reason those knives were there is because I got all the good ones lol

Oh, that's too funny! I did hang out with Donna and Emily, Gary didn't make it to the show - he was traveling back from SHOT, so I'll get to meet him at another show. Donna and chatted for a while and I hope I didn't drool too much on her case with all the ZTs...
:p

Hi cEdge! Yes, there was still a lot of junk, it took some searching to find my treasures. I went to a couple shows last year (missed the big holiday one in December) and many of the dealers I talked with said volume was way down. Today, I was tripping over people left-and-right. And they weren't just looking, I could see lots of purchases and people carrying bags of goodies.

It felt different today with an upbeat positive vibe...
