I just wanted to see what would happen, and a few people said that I should put 'em on that evil- place to see what would happen. So today I did; I put one of my 9 scout sheaths up.

Have you guys put anything up there? I'm kinda nervous about this whole thing.

To keep this thread some what Becker related; I'm expecting my BK7 on my door step in the next couple hours. Pix will be posted as soon as I get it. :D

I tried to sell a golf club once to make my wife happy. It didn't sell though, mostly b/c the pics were horrible...I think.

i've sold a ton of stuff there in the past, due to the specialty nature, and wider access... did well. i think EVERYTHING sells there.

here? well, you have to have the right item, the timing, and price. some people are hagglers ;) evilPlace, prices just go UP.

heck, some dude paid over $300 for a Reinhardt epoxy job. jeez! stop it people! i hope it's not "one of us". unless you have a LOT of money. then we should talk :D

If were talkin' Ebay then yes I've sold a couple hundred star wars toys on there. I'm gonna go check out your sheath now.

Hey MWTIC, I've sold some decent tonnage there myself, and bought a lot of stuff too. From knives to Les Pauls to boots to motorcycles and parts, I've bought/sold it all. I found your sheath easy enough. Couple of suggestions....

One, don't be real discouraged if your first auction doesn't go as hoped for. You only have one feedback score, and that's as a Buyer from about 7 months ago. People are (rightfully) leery of low feedback scores.

Two, pictures are pretty cheap for what you get in return. The more detail you can show, especially on artsy-fartsy kinds of things (I've sold tons of my turquoise and silver work there), the better your chances of piquing someone's interest that won't take a chance if they can't "fully" inspect the merchandise. You have great stitching, the coloring on the close-up pictures that I've seen of your work looks great, the carry system is well made, but you can't see any of that from the one picture you have there. Plus you have a unique system for moving the retention strap out of the way when drawing. Show your stuff off man. It'll pay off in the long run.

Three, I strongly suggest you edit the title and include the word "Becker" in it. Also edit that word into the description. As it is now, if someone just searched on "Becker knife," your sheath won't come up in the results. I usually just search on the name Becker and browse through all the results just to see what's out there. I think generalized searches are about as common as specific searches, like for a "BK9 Sheath." Set it up so you'll benefit from those general searches as well.

Lastly, you really need to let your prospective customers know what kinds of payments you can accept. I'm assuming you don't have PP? If you do, you'll get a LOT more interest. If you don't and don't plan on getting it, you'll likely end up with a winning bidder who had no intention of sending checks through the mail or whatever, and will be frustrated when they realize getting their new sheath ain't gonna be quick and easy. Main thing is just put it in your ad copy so that no one can say they didn't know.

Good luck. I think it's a great idea to try to sell there. Just be ready for a learning curve, and like any business, learning curves rarely come free. Stick with it and learn the ropes though, and I'll bet you can do pretty good there.

Ya man, what blues said. Becker K is how I search that place. I did that and couldn't find your sheath so I assumed I was wrong about it being ebay.

Thanks for the tips and pointers guys. I really haven't done a lot of selling, this is my first time, and I've only bought a few things from there. It's all new to me so I'm kinda lost with it all. I went and did what you said Blues. I'm sure it will help me out. Thanks.

read ad copy from many ads similar to what you are selling.

like the Exchanges here, state your terms of sale clearly... will you sell out of country? what do you charge for shipping? what kinds of shipping do you offer?

be FAST when you get confirmed payment. don't wait a week. communicate with the seller, esp if you are a newbie. they MUST be reassured to get those bonus points later :) once you have a few flawless sales, it's easier. if you get asshats, do what you can do keep them from being asshats. never reply in anger. be the better person (at least in text). for those rep points.

but mostly, see what others do, that have success and copy them, then exceed them.

Thanks for those pointers too Bladite. I went and did that. That should make things easier for everyone involved.

I hope that everything goes easy with the auction.

One last thing....

Remember that Buyers have a minimum of 3 days to make payment after end-of-auction. It still pisses me off to no end when someone wins an auction and then doesn't pay for three days, but them's the rules, so if that happens, don't interpret it as a sale that didn't go easy. Even if this one doesn't sell on the first listing, I would recommend not taking that as not going well either. That feedback score makes a huge difference, and the only way to build it up is to sell stuff. Whether this listing sells or not this time around, you could find some stuff around the house that you don't need and sell it there. Cheap, small stuff that won't cost much to ship and that people will buy because they aren't going to lose anything significant if it sits on their pack-rat shelves for the rest of their lives. LOL Really man, the saying is true, one man's junk is another man's treasure. Used CDs is a great way to build your feedback score. Books or magazines. Those cheap knives that you bought before you knew what a good knife was. Clothes you or your kids don't wear or have grown out of. Just get 10 or 12 sales all with positive feedback, and your leather work will start moving a lot faster. I can almost guarantee that. But in any case, one sale, your first one, whether perfectly smooth and for a good final price or not, shouldn't make or break your Evil Place experiment.

Oh, one last thing (no, really)....

If someone asks a question about your auction, when you read it you have the chance to post it and your answer in the listing. Do that if it's not a ridiculously stupid question. It gives you a chance to be courteous and thank them for their interest, and take a second bite at the apple in describing something about your listing in a positive light.

Good luck man.

It's sorta like sex, you can't expect top quality yer first time out.

I always like 7 or 10 day auctions that ended on sunday evening. There's not really a lot that that can go wrong. But it's like anything, you get better through the process

i found it just fine and bid on it so it gaurenteed to sell now its just a waiting game..... btw its sweet as hell

and i dont have much ebay feedback scores but i got plenty here so if im the winner you can rest easy that ill pay fast and make it as smooth as possible.....plus you can track me down on BF if need be

Anything will sell on the bay. Sometimes you have to be patient, but most times I sell on the first listing.

One time, I sold a broken vacuum on there, just because my wife said "No one is going to buy that piece of crap, just throw it away." I got $49 plus shipping for an appliance that sold for $99 new at Wal-Mart. When she asked what WE are going to do with the money, I told her that WE aren't doing anything with it, because YOU wanted to throw it away. I, on the other hand, have already bought a new knife with the funds. :D

So you're the guy that sold me that vacuum.

I've sold quite a few vintage motorcycle parts there...But it's too much of hassle for me these days to mess with.
