I wish Buck would make an Ontario RA7-7, Ontario RD7, or KaBar Becker BK-7 Surival

years ago i bought one of the camillus made BK2s and that is one heck of a good knife. it holds up to hard use better than some of my knives that cost three times the price.

I don't have a BK7 (yet) but I do have the BK2, BK9 and BK10LE and have in the past owned a Buck 124. They really are very different styles of knives. The 124 is a classic beauty but I realised I almost liked it too much to use and so sold it, although I am sure it is a more than capable knife. The Beckers are a much more 'modern' design and fantastic knives.

I also have both the Buck 650 and 655 Nighthawks, and while I love them both, they don't compete with the Beckers for size, fit and feel, or toughness. They really are more 'tactical' than general bushcraft/camping oriented I think (although given your service AW that may appeal anyway). Smaller than the BK7 but still a great knife and perhaps the closest in the Buck range to what you are looking for.

Buck Strider Fixed Blade? There were several models including a buildout based on a Nighthawk. (I've got one and I'm not planning on parting with it anytime soon.) They've been discontinued for awhile, but they're still available if you look where the moon shines when the lights go down in the city.

You are right that I do like tactical knives, but most are near worthless in the great outdoors. I have come to really appreciate the general bushcraft/camping (main duty) oriented knifes (BK7, Ontario RAT-7, etc.,) that can be used tactical (additional duty).

Buck Hoodlum or Tops/Buck CSAR-T may fit the bill for you. I own the CSAR-T. It was one of my totally unexpected treasures. Once i held it, i had to own it. Perfectly balanced, took a scary sharp edge in no time & a great sheath. Perfect blade when you need a med sized fixed blade.
