I currently own a Candiru, 2 Izula in s35vn, two Izula in 1095, and a Laser Strike. In the past I have owned the 4 and the 6, in addition to numerous other Izula and Candiru knives. I am a fan of ESEE knives, 100%. I carry one daily. With that said, there isn’t anything inherently special about them. There are a lot of knives using more premium materials, with better geometry, and higher performance. ESEE’s appeal to me is their simplicity, durability, warranty, and ability to be decently well rounded. But, this is all just my opinion.I wish ESEE would give me a free knife so I can see what the fuss is about.
Yes, I removed the coating on my 3 and 4, much better. The grip on my 3 with TKC extended scales is the most comfortable fixed blade I own.I second this. I have an ESEE 3 that is perfectly fine with 1095. I want to see the patina. Has anyone removed the coating? What would do it easily?
Recently did the Junglas ll.
Took the coating off my 6, years ago.
Knives are better in almost every way. Slices better, and goes through wood with noticeably less resistance.
Used Kleen Strip.

I used Klean-Strip, but it took a few applications. But the stripper was about a year old, and I don't know if it gets weaker with age. I did the "forced patina" thing with a paper towel soaked with vinegar. The patina has evened out some since I took this picture, and it looks more uniform, now.

Still would like it in magnacut.
I’ve done both, strip the whole knife & just the blade. If you’re worried about rust under the scales and you don’t want to have to have to do as much upkeep, I would just strip the blade. If you aren’t worried about rust under the scales or it will bother you to not have the knife entirely stripped, then go for it. Personal preference imo.Ok, I am planning to strip my three favorite ESEE’s. Any pointers for using Klean-Strip? Any reason I shouldn’t take off the scales and strip the full length of the knives?

Does stripping under the scales ever impact the fitting of the scales or retention in existing sheaths? I’m wondering if the slight reduction in thickness has any impact.I’ve done both, strip the whole knife & just the blade. I can't speak for Esee blades, but there has been other fixed blades that I stripped, then found the scale screws protruded a bit. Specifically the KaBar Turok.Does stripping under the scales ever impact the fitting of the scales or retention in existing sheaths? I’m wondering if the slight reduction in thickness has any impact.

With the ESEE knives, I’ve never had that issue. With the Becker/Kabar I had some issues with protruding screws and looser sheaths likeDoes stripping under the scales ever impact the fitting of the scales or retention in existing sheaths? That or A8mod would be awesome.I wish ESEE would make my favorite model, the ESEE 5, in S7 steel!
