I don't know about you guys but blade money is always tight for me. I need some time to save and scrape together enough money to buy a sweet blade that I really want. Sometimes that takes a little too long and the Sypderco I wanted is long gone. Such is the case with the FFG S30V Manix. I really wanted that knife but the price was a little much. Well now I have the money but no dealer has the knife! HAHA Such is life I guess.
I was thinking that if Spyderco used VG-10 instead of the S30V it would put the cost in between the 154CM model and the S30V model. It would be a great compromise for buyers. The FFG on a steel that many Spyderco users are familiar with and a reduced cost from the limited, and IMHO pricey, sprint run. I know I will get comments saying that the 154CM blade is good for daily use but I personally don't care for the steel. To each his own I guess.
Well what do you guys think? Should there be a Manix 2 with FFG VG-10 steel? If so, what color G-10? :)

I think if Spyderco just put the 154CM in FFG, most owners would be much happier. Again, I don't know how much that would rise production costs. Just a thought.

Importing VG10 from Japan would probably make it as expensive as S30V, possibly more so. In the attributes most people talk about S30V meets or exceeds VG10.

This CTS-XTP sprint is a little cheaper than the S30V model. You might like that one. It should be a good performer.

check the sale threads or ebay I am sure you can find one for less then any dealer would sell it.

I agree with The Mastiff that the cost of importing the VG-10 would probably put it in the same price range as S30v. That said I would love to see a FFG S30v Manix 2 sold alongside the 154cm version. Spyderco did it with the Delica and the Endura offering us the choice of VG-10 or ZDP and it would be nice to see the same thing with the Manix.

One could always contact Mr. Krein for a sweet regrind and sharpening on the 154-CM Manix. Also, tracing the skeletonnixed portions of the li9ners to match the blue manix would be coool too. I smell a project coming on!

There are tons of spydies with FFG, get one of them. The manix is supposed to be 'hard use' that's why i love the Hollow grind.

Thanks for the imput everyone.

I did not think about the import cost of the steel, but I am sure Sal did. LOL! Maybe that is why they used 154CM in the first place.
I agree with dcycleman in that as long as the blade is FFG it would be sweet!
Plus the Spyderco heat treat on the steel might not be so bad. :)
Krien might get some work out of the regular Manix 2 for sure.

Keep the votes comming everyone!

I didn`t see an option for my vote so....

(insert check here:thumbup:) I would love to see the Mini Manix return in a sprint run with some other exotic blade steels :D

Just put up a black G-10 S30V FFG Manix2 with skeletonized liners as a regular production knife. Price it around $120 street and you have a great value knife that would sell in my opinion.

It's funny about the love the old Manix 1's enjoy (me one of them) but I have always felt that the weight and overall bulk of the originals was part of why they didn't sell.

The S30V Manix 2 is MUCH easier to carry IMHO.

Agreed and well put. This could turn out to be a project like the Sage. Use different steels and different G-10 materials on teh handl;es. can you imagine something like a Manix 440V with Coyote Brown G-10 and skele liners?
I'd be willing to plunk down my money for some in advance...

I am liking the idea for the manix to be the new "sage type" series or "mule type" series. What better and more bulletproof knife to put your newest/greatest steel in?

I love my manix 2 with 154 CM hollow grind, but I would also like another in FFG that is less expensive then the Blue Manix, or a manix with the higher grade steel. For $70, you just can't beat the manix 2!

+1
I believe, Manix2 is good as is. Good and affordable. Probably it would be nice to have in addition limited production of FFG with black handle for knifenuts who are willing to pay a little extra for FFG.
