I would like a custom Soddie!

Here is my KHam Knutbuster

I Love them all but, this is what I want. Thomason said "rare and much sought after Hampton "Knutbuster"." What does that equal in dollars and wait time?

So-Lo: The best way to find out is to contact Kerry directly via email or PM. Be advised, however, that Kerry is a part time maker so the wait may be longer than you're stated time frame.

RobbW: I'd shoot an email to Ken. He'll let you know what his current status is vis-a-vis orders.

Here are a couple of customs I had made. Jeff Cover and K.R. Johnson. Both have ATS-34 blades. I special requested the ATS-34 from K.R. Johnson and had to wait a while for that request, but not too long. I haven't used either one, so I can't comment on performance. Each has features that I like on one better than the other;) Overall both are quite nice. Custom Sodbuster have really developed a "cult following" recently.

I'd love to have a Knutbuster too, but I don't see that happening.

Please consider Ken Coats of KC Custom. AFAIK he doesn't have a website but some great examples of his work are in the Makers section under folders for sale. The time frame and price point are just about right.

I've carried my knutty every day since blade and will be carrying it every day until the next blade when I hope to get presented with another KH Diggity Wow Wow (unless he makes my next one sooner) ;)

More Soddie pix are always welcome. :D

Basically, with regard to dollars, it's priceless and with regard to wait time, it doesn't matter...it's worth the wait :)

I hear you. :o

I will try and contact him, but if its a no go. As in he is not taking any more names, it still looks like there is a few more great makers making the Soddie pattern.

How does one go from Autos, Striders, Sebenzas, XMs ... And other huge Tack-Ts to slippies?

I have carried a peanut, Soddie Jr in the past (off and on) but never felt the need for a custom slippie. Now I'm on the hunt, its a little scary. :o

:D

Can I still be a tough guy if I carry a slippie as my main knife?

No. People will see you as more intelligent, practical, thoughtful, wise, and you'll be more respected. But "tough"? No.

Tough guys eat glass, smoke dynamite, and drink their whiskey out of old car radiators. And carry something wimpy like a "Busse", or something like that.

thx - cpr

ps - I know, I couldn't resist stirring up a little trouble. :D My main carry knife has been a large Stockman for five months now.

For the humor challenged, the previous post contained a joke. It was only a joke and no knives, makers or users were hurt during its creation.

Please let's not start a s&#tstorm necessitating the closing of this thread.

Thank you and now back to our show...

Last year, after seeing J. Todd's collection photo (that's some eyecandy right there), for some reason I really got hooked on a green-handled Sodbuster. When we pay off our debt, probably by the end of next year, that's going to be the first custom I order; a medium-sized Soddie, in good carbon steel, with green micarta scales. I'm still undecided on some of the specs, but the wait is worth it, and the research is fun.

As far as my "troublemaking" Busse comment, well, we are paying our car off in December, and that's when I can finally buy me a Busse. I've been wanting one for a couple of years. (My Becker is retired, my Cat. 225Q is an heirloom now, etc.)

My wife bugs me about why I'm obsessed about knives, but she likes Soddies too...

thx - cpr

About 11 months I asked Mike Tison to build me a small sodbuster with blue/black carbon fiber scales, yes, I said carbon fiber. Mike said it would be about a year until my name comes up. Haven't followed up with him lately but mayhaps the time draws near.

Now that one from Mike will be a show piece, I have his sowbelly and his workmanship is FINE. Can I take your spot on his list?:D

Can I still be a tough guy if I carry a slippie as my main knife?

I started out with slip joints and fixed blades, then carried a tactical for years, and about three years ago I came back home to slip joints as my EDC, with a Tac at times and for something more serious a fixed blade.
The slip joint is the only thing that never changes now.

So are you say'in being a "tough guy" is a state of mind? If so maybe even know I do not smoke, I should roll a half a pack of cigs up in my sleeve? :D

Keep the custom Soddie pics coming if you have them. I am doing my homework, then will be shooting a few emails off. (not that that will get anything done in the next year or so :grumpy:)

Man those are some fine examples of sodbusters.

yeah I definitely need to look closer into getting on from one of the fine makers mentioned in this thread.

Nice picts as well !
