So VG-10 seems pretty good in my eyes. I now see the different elements in steel can make blades stronger and/or less resistant for corrosion.
VG-10 fits this:
Carbon: more than .5% carbon, which makes it "high-carbon" steel.
Vanadium: Due to the vanadium content, VG-10 takes a killer edge, just like other vanadium steels like BG-42 and AUS-8. VG-10 is also tougher and more rust-resistant than ATS-34, and seems to hold an edge better.
Molybdenum: more than 1% prevents brittleness & maintains the steel's strength.
Chromium: more than 13% for wear resistance, hardenability, and for corrosion resistance.
Manganese: aids and contributes to hardenability, strength & wear resistance.
Silicon: Contributes to strength like manganese.
