I would like to make a knife 911 HELP

hi ya all im real new here and ide like some advice on how to make knives ide like to start reasonable simple something i just need to make the handle glue it and pin it to start any how and maybee later make my own knives from scrap damascus saw blades if thats possible.I dont know sqwat so any and all advice i will appreciate. thanks kellyw
 
Read up in the Makers subforum; lots of good info there.

Plenty of places (KnifeKits, TexasKnife, Jantz) carry blade blanks that you can start with.

walter go to you tube i learned alot from there so far. type in knife making or knife makers or how to make a knife. also look in forging knives very interesting. so far the cheapest best wayive seen to make knives is from leaf springs. build a fire and i think its called anoy or anoite the steel [take the temper out ] then gind the hell out of it and then put the temper back in . tempering is really easy from what ive seen non magnetic is 1800 f the steel will not stick to a magnet easy enough. as far as building a forge oven looks pretty easy take 4 inch pipe drill 2 1/2 inch holes 4 inches apart through the pipe place to propane torches inside oh weld a cap on one end of the pipe and close in the otherend with small babque bricks to keep the heat in heat up the finished blade to non magnetic and presto dip it in olive oil DONT USE OLD MOTOR OIL IT CAUSES LUNG CANCER alot say to use it but dont unless your outside its also really messy to clean off the knife after.I am starting with just buying knife blanks some 440c but a couple damascus ones to start off.so far the nicest woods ive seen are ASH BURL BIRDS EYE MAPLE AND IRON WOOD.hard but still easier to work with that bone or stone yet.im having trouble finding a cheap good supplier for mosaic pins and lanyard mosaic tubes anyone know tell me wow its tuff to find.
 
Have you given up on arrowheads? I still find old trade knives and copper knives.

why would you interfere with two friends talking? every board has someone who likes to hijack a thread like you are. we are both trying to learn, not have to respond to someone creating trouble
 
thanks revhard05 ill look into that . walter hope you come back to read this i found some killer points this year a couple life time finds one agate basin/ angostura and a scotty 4 inches plus both museum grade plus so no i havent given up lol i just need a hobby while im waiting for surgery. first thing if your lookin for steel to make knives everyone says leaf springs 5160 steel but if your goona start by skippin the knife makin part and spend more time on handles there are lots of places to look on the internet texas knives .com premiumknives .com knife blanks will pull up lots too oh ya knifekits.com too they have lots. i am having trouble finding mosaic lanyard tubes i dont really want plain brass tubes . im going to go ask in another area.

In case you missed it, this is a public board. Two friends talking would do well to do so in private if they wanted a reasonable expectation of a private conversation.
