If you were a dork and you wanted to understand knife making, metallurgy, and all things pokey and shiny - what would be on your reading list?

I would love to do a lot of reading as I build my shop up to the point that I can grind a decent blade.

Would love the help.

Thanks,

Jason

You tube.

I've been making knives now for about a year and my biggest learning tool has been you tube.

Kevin Cashen's web site has some excellent information. Kevin is one of the most knowlegable knifemakers on heat treating there is.
Concerning You Tube, there is some good information there, and some really bad information. Just because someone knows how to post on You Tube does not mean they know how to make a knife.

I couldn't find a polite way to say that, Tom, so thanks.

YouTube is a barren wasteland of nonsense, filled with a lot of misinformation. Unless you are knowledgeable enough to filter through the BS, I would call almost everything you find there into DEEP scrutiny...

Right here Jason. This is the best resource on the planet for knife making. Read Grasshopper, read.

I have read the download for metallurgy and was looking for more along those lines for the process of making knives. I will look through the sticky and get to work there too.
