I would like your opinion please...

I love Spyderco and Benchmade items, and in regards to CRKT,......
in my opinion, the M16 series, and M21's are great knives, and are not to be underestimated. 'nuff said'.

Wow that Alpha Hunter from BUCK looks really nice. It looks a bit thick though.
I'm also a Buck fan. I also have several SAKs, a Swisstool, and a couple Leathermans. I guess that I'm just someone that likes knives and multi-tools that have lifetime or long warrantees.

The Alpha Hunter has Allen wrench adjustable screws and pivot pin, so, if you want to lose the scales on the Alpha Hunter, to make it thinner and lighter, you could remove them fairly easily.

To address Carl64's difficulty with liner locks, I'd suggest testing any liner lock knife that you want to purchase, before you buy it, to make certain that it locks properly. I haven't (yet) seen any liner locks that reach all of the way over to the opposite liner before, but I've seen and held several liner locking knives (not any Bucks, yet, BTW) that haven't reached far enough to hold the blade locked.

For fixed blades, I have enjoyed Bark River quite a lot. they have more outdoor type knives than they have "tactical" type, but they are nice for the money.

I have had great luck with a CRKT Mirage and I also enjoy my Kershaw Chive. Both companies make some low end stuff, but they do have some nicer stuff IMHO. I still like my Benchmade and Spydies the best.

Manix is next...

Kershaw if you like Ken Onion,
they're amazing value, and innovative, and beauties, in all sizes and materials, with the Bump, e.g., getting into semi-custom quality realms...
Would have thought more people shout for Microtech, actually,...

You won't go wrong with any of the three but I lean towards Al Mar. They make a high quality knife and their blades come hair-shaving sharp. I have one of the older models with ivory micarta handles and I love it.

I'll toss in another recommendation for Kershaw. Their lower-end stuff probably won't appeal to you, but get your hands on a Leek or a Boa. Anything that Ken Onion worked on will be solid. I love my Kershaw stuff.

BARK RIVER IS AWESOME! If you're looking for a fixed blade, look no further. Their convex-ground blades are better cutters than any other fixed blades I've been able to compare them to. That, and they're really stylish!! :D

Emerson also makes some excellent knives. Their construction is very similar to Benchmade's, materials also very similar. This is one company whose products I don't yet own, but one of my buddies has a CQC-7/wave and I've handled it. It's incredibly solid (feels a little more rugged than my Benchmades, though the BMs are just as sturdy), and the wave feature is really nice. I plan to purchase a CQC-10 as soon as I can spare the funds.

Then again, maybe you want to get into traditional folders & slipjoints, in which case I could go on for days...

Peace.

I don't know if you are looking for folders or fixed blades, so I'm going to recommend some folders that come to mind.
For CRKT models, my favorite is the M1; it's one of the most comfortable folding knives in-hand for me. I like the looks of the M16 and M21 lines, but the blade-flipper eats into my hand when the blade is open (the flipper acts as a small finger guard).
No one has recommended any Cold Steel knives; while many of their pieces are way over-priced, there are some bargains out there. I just got a Gunsite II that I am thoroughly enjoying. It's got a partially serrated, 4" long AUS-8 tanto blade and they're generally available from http://www.cheaperthandirt.com for in the mid-$40's. The CS Voyager line is also a solid line of folding knives.
The venerable Buck 110 can also be had from Cabela's in S30V steel (with Paul Bos heat treat, of course) for $60, which I think is a great deal http://www.cabelas.com

Happy hunting and let us know what you get!

One more for Cold Steel. The Voyager series is spectacular. I will recomend the Ti-Lite (their cheap model.) It's not the greatest of materials, but it's sturdy. And it's fun! If you need something different from your current collection, give it a shot.

Each company will have its fans and detractors, but I have owned knifes from many manufacturers and here are just my personal opinions on what I happen to own in general...

Benchmade... Love their product and rate as one of my top 3 faves overall.
Chris Reeve... Lg Regular Sebenza. Along with BM 805, it's one of my favorite EDC's.
Victorinox... 'Nuff said.
Spyderco... Great knives, my fave for all-around use is Endura.
Al Mar...Only own a SERE 2k and handled others. My SERE has ball detent issues, but fit/finish otherwise excellent. Overall, IMHO, quality at various levels seems about on a par with Spyderco.
CRKT...Haven't bought any for quite a while. They make a good product for the $.
Leatherman...my fave pliers multi-tools, esp, Blast and Wave.
SOG...some good folders, but they really excel at fixed blades.
Cold Steel...Their Voyager models are a great buy, IMO the clip point is more versatile.
Camillus...own an EDC and several traditional slipjoints. Overall, good quality.
Buck...Some of their stuff is outstanding (110, 112, 503); IMO some not as consistent.
Kershaw...I have some of the Liner Action models that are kind of a sleeper among knives; several Speedsafes like Blackout, Leek, etc., well-done.
Pro-Tech...Own a Runt (California Legal auto)...top quality.
DKD...Another CA legal, the Sharkstooth...equal to the Pro-tech.
Emerson...CQC7-A and B, Commander, La Griffe. Overall, I like the quality of what I have, but don't use very often.

These are just some of my own perspectives on some of the manufacturers whose knives I happen to own, and YMMV.

I'll say that the sog vision is the best knife I have owned to date.
It felt like a bulldog of a knife. It developed some play in the blade but I did use it alot.
I've handled a few m16's and liked them the lawks system was something fun to play with and seemed usefull.

Victorinox has no equal when it comes to quality. Of course Benchmade and Spyderco are tops too. Other companies that I would mention are Microtech and SOG. I've never seen any lemons, design or defect, on any of their models.

hmmmm...well if you like I have an extra SOG vision in ATS-34 and titanium handle in stock I can give you a deal on if you like. Just email me.
