Ice Ax

Does your truck look anything like my cows?

With what's going down in our economy lately, I'll bet pretty soon lots of people's trucks are going to look just like those;)! Maybe with a little cart in behind...

I watched The Empire Strikes Back with my daughter last night, and seeing that pic of your cows, Ray, reminds me of the scene where Han cuts open the Tonton and puts Luke inside to stay warm. Uh, I sound a bit like a geek don't I?

Anyway, nice axe!

Eli, Your guess is as good as mine. To tell you the truth I really don't know. That's the only way I could figure out to get the 4" bit with the 1" square steel.

Well, I don't guess it matters what you call it. I just call it nice

I did get another coat of oil on the haft yesterday. Wanted to give the head one more rub but wanted to do it wet and then etch again. All the water in the shop is in block form including my etch. We got at least 8" of snow overnight and its still snowing. My project today is trying to make some experimental snow shoes. I'm starting to get concerned about the cows. They haven't showed up for lunch yet.

Are you serious? We will definitely need pics

Looking forward to seeing the axe all finished up...

The cold weather sure slowed down the finish on this ax. Luckily the customer is in no big rush. It finished out pretty nice. The hamon is still there but it must be camera shy. I'm going to need to use a different finish in the winter time. I put 4 coats of Watco Teak Finish on this haft and had to use my heat treating oven set at 80 degrees to speed up the curing process and it still took for ever. I did that inbetween each coat.
