Iconic World Knives

A sheepsfoot in rosewood

Growing up in England, I remember more than any working knife, this Sheepsfoot or Lambsfoot.

Our Gardener had a knife like this.

And going walking in country side I would stop in pubs for a "Ploughmans lunch"
This was a chunk of cheddar cheese (or what ever was local), a half loaf of bread and a pint of the local beer.
What would the locals be cutting the cheese with?

The British Army Clasp Knife also had a Sheepsfoot blade, and that pattern is more than 100 years old

Good idea neeman.

Maybe a Hawkbill Pruner with wood scales could be included on this list?

Some manner of knife with a Marlin spike could be interesting, I think the British Army one used to have that, Mercator from Germany too

There are some great ideas here. I guess my wish-list just got a lot longer!

Definitely going to have to check out the Japanese knife. I've also had a laguiole in mind, but it seems the decent ones are fairly expensive. I also realized I don't have a friction folder or mariner knife.

And Dagon- I've seen a few of your reviews and you really have some beauties.

Thanks for the suggestions:thumbup:

From a Swedish point of wiew I recomend the woodhandled reed mora #1: 100ds of years of traditional woodsmans knifes made to suit massproduction, and the EKA Swede 38. The eka is a slipjoint designed in the funkis-era and designed of Sigvard Bernadotte who was a prins of the Swedish royal family.

Sodbuster would be a good choice for a lot of places, IIRC the general pattern is 95% identical in several European countries, where its 'the' working mans knife.

Have you considered a Western brand knife in the Hunter or Trapper style? U.S.A. And as good as any Case knife. Just my 2cents worth.
