There's a lot of costs to American living many foreigners aren't aware of.

Housing, in my area, average household income is $80,000. But a typical house will go for $600,000

Education, typical University education will cost $50,000

Health care: $200-400 per month per person. Sounds like a lot, but the alternative is unacceptable. My mother had a shoulder surgery with two days hospital stay. The hospital billed her insurance $32,000. I bought her a perscription painkiller, without insurance I'd have to pay $40 for one pill.

Life is pretty good here, so long as you don't get sick.

but health cost is also very expensive, many people can't bear the cost.so the health system reform is ongoing.

you'll find answer in my above introduction.male will get his pension at 60,female at 55.

I see. Then there's a big difference how we save for retirement. Few Americans have retirement pensions. This means we have to put away a sizeable amount ourselves. We do have something called Social Security, but it's about enough to buy beer.

If let's say you are used to a $40,000 a year life-style. Then you need enough in a safe account that can generate that much in interest. Money market accounts will give 3% after inflation. So that means you need to put away $1,333,333 to live after retirement. Most people I know are still working at 60 to put off retirement until they can afford it. So you see our paychecks don't go as far as it looks.
