Hi, all.
I was just thinking (everyone DUCK!!) that it would be cool to have a picture archive, possibly on the Spyderco website (hint, hint) of all discontinued models. Wouldn't that be great!!!

What a great idea! Some of us have not been doing this long and an archive of older models wouls be a really cool resource. My only problem would be: Almost all the Spydies I own are discontinued (G-10 Harpy,Mini-Dyad,Original Bob T.,JSK,Micarta Calypso,Matriarch), now I would be able to spend too much time drooling over other discontinued models I can't own

Still a great idea though!!!!!!

A good idea, esp as the Spyderbook is so pricey. In the meantime, a certain online auction place can be useful...

I too think it's a good idea, especially if the pictures show both front and back of knife. Too many sites just show you the front--leaving you wondering how the clip is placed and how the knife will ride in your pocket.

This is a good idea. Preferably it could be a web site that users could upload there pictures too. Some one would have to take care of it. It would be nice it were a part of Spyderco's site or this site, but it could be a users site with links here and to Spyderco. I would think this would also be in Spyderco's interest as well. How about this Sal?

I believe that what you are seeking is in the Spyderco book. It was difficult for Ken to pull all of the info together. I don't know how you can do what you have planned??

sorry, double post.

Sal - that's relatively easy - if you are willing to put the book online - which means less sales (?)

Britanica.com doesn't seem to be loosing any business ever since they went online...

If the book was created using any modern publishing methods - then all the materials are already on magnetic media - which should make it fairly easy to be made into a website/link.

Surely there are better people then me here to help you sort this one out...

I would think this will help people look for new/old spyderco knives and can turn out to be a major attraction to existing and potential customers alike.

Blilious - Spyderco did not write or publish the book. It would not be proper for us to consider putting it on line. I would guess that the publisher would rather not see it on line.

sal

I'm sure a few of us wouldn't mind contributing pics of our old spydercos. I'm sure you'd have a complete library in no time. Although, I think you (Sal) would probably be the only one that would be able to produce pictures of your old knife sharpenners.
By the way, please don't take my words to be pushy, I like the idea, but if you guys don't like it, or find it unfeasable, that's cool with me.

Sal - My bad - I assumed it did.

The bad guy in the movie “Under Siege 2” keeps saying: “the assumption is the mother of all f**k - ups”

Anyway - I think the idea has merit - and would love to have an online archive like that.

That idea kicks @$$, what a brill idea, to Sal Id say this, bud it would take work and a fair bit of effort on Spyderco's side(as if thats ever stopped you guys

) and I can promise you one thing, it WILL boost your sales, I personally have been running up and down the net from site to site looking for info on certain models like the civilian and so on, if you had a database of all your models, discontinued and current that would be great for those of us that are and want to collect these fine blades.
As far as the Spyderco Book, even tho this is via a private publisher your site could map it out in the same way (not identicle), these products do belong to you as do the info so you can put it in whichever way you like.

When your web designers are up for a challenge go for this one, your Spydie users will really appreciate it.

Sal I wish you and your company all the best for now and the future.

It's a good idea.

I'm curious about who might have James Matthis' scans of knives. If you haven't seen them, these are some of the clearest pics out there. It's such a shame that those scans are no longer available. I recently was cleaning out bookmarks and had to take Chai Cutlery off my list.

Hi all!

I'd also like to see a picture gallery online.

This has nothing to do with the book.
The book is great, don't get me wrong, but a picture of each modell and every variant is something a book can't bring.

I mean if you do a full-color-book, the costs would be enourmos, on the net you can even update it.

It should be some kind of gallery , but we need a custos (some kind of coordinator)who takes care of it. Mabe a small group, one of them does the work (posting the pic's).
This could be in some kind of rotation, well let's say in a two months period.
The group decides which pic (every spydernut is invited to send cool pix's)is going to be showed in the gallery.

Just my thought's.

Greetings

Maybe some of the collector's could help?

OK, let's explore the concept a little.

Let's assume for a moment a poster. One large color poster that showed all of the prior production models and variations. each photo showed the model open (front side) and closed (back side) with the model number, name and year of introduction.

Interest?

Since this would be a faily labor intensive project, it could be expensive. Would you pay for such a poster?

sal

Holy cow!! That would be some poster!! Probably cost as much as the book.

But it sure would be cool.

I'd pay for one, Spyderco has done several nice things for us for zero cost(mouse pads, pins, decals), so we should cover their costs on this so that it can happen.

I think a poster is a great idea! And yes, I would pay for it. Please do it! Thanks, Ron......
