ID Needed: Can yall help me with these markings!

Dalmatians are well known for having this problem. I'm a big Dobe fan, note the monicker. They have such health problems that I don't know if I can go through the loss again. Most breeds have their problems. Once the stud book closes, the genetic problems generally begin.

That's one of the main reason we went for the Appenzeller. It is a freakin old breed going back from the bronze age. Might have been introduced in Switzerland by the Romans (God knows if it is a descendant of the Molossus). The look doesn't show much but they are built like tanks and known to have very little defects with a healthy lifespan of ~13 years.

Holly molly! That's something you get with an energetic dog that hasn't exercise enough. Overcharged batteries and nothing to do can lead to destruction.

That picture also tells me another story. Just the fact that the dog is calm while you are taking that picture means it knows it will not sleep in the doghouse or take a beating for it. Which is good, because overcharged batteries is not dog's fault :)

My high voltage hunting partner (Appenzell mountain dog) - You don't want her alone and bored in the house.

That's a good looking dog too.

Oh that's true alright but in today's society there is occasionally a day when you have to lock the dogs in the house and leave them there for a few hours alone. I don't like to but its mandatory sometimes. No matter how much you exercise them they aren't fond of being locked in the house but just something you have to do on occasion. His muscle tone should tell you the real picture. He gets all the exercise he wants and then i give him more.
Dang good looking dog sno. Kinda looks like a bit of Border Collie. Not famliar with Appenzell mountain dogs but she looks like a sweetie! I got to travel about 250 miles to get ducks so no point in raising duck dogs so mine are just family dogs. They do like rabbits, deer, and roadrunners tho.

Hes a pussycat but when it comes to protection and hunting he is more than capable of complete dismemberment. I had a few Huskies at one time. They are great dogs. They loved the water. They had to be put to sleep for the same reason. They couldnt even walk to go to the bathroom anymore. One I think had a stroke in the night and passed and the other brother i had to have put down. They lived a full happy life.
I met a guy at the lake one time with a blue healer that was completely blind. You wouldnt know it except for the way he moved. When Id walk to the waters edge across the jagged rocks he would stop when no one was talking. I eventually figured out what he was doing to navigate. When there was sound he would use it to read the rocks shapes and such and he would walk normally. When it got quiet he had to stop because he had no mental picture of the surface he was walking on. He was using echo location. Truely amazing to watch him hop across a foot gap in the rocks to get to the water. He loved to swim.

Hijack away man! This was my thread anyway right. yep. no problem.

A malamute is twice the size of a husky, and more wear and tear on the joints. Pretty much all old dogs, and 13 is very old for a big dog, will get arthritis, sadly so.

And temperamentally so different...I would own a husky if it were the last dog on Earth, and not before, LOL! Some individuals are more reasonable, though, I admit.

Gorgeous! That's why I am not a fan of hunting dogs turned pets (high energy) - *I mean for regular dudes that don't know what they get into and then regret*. Labs can drive one crazy, haha!

I will give beagles a pass, though. Way too cool merry little dogs, not to.

The Border Collie is long haired. The Appenzell is short and very dense. You're analogy is an excellent one though. Border Collie are known to be amongst the smartest dogs. The Appenzell has similar abilities. Smart dogs are challenging but extremely rewarding if you train them well.

She got great vision, decent hearing and decent smell. She is an excellent swimmer which is a bonus because her parents were not. She doesn't point but I know how she behaves when getting close to a game, so it does the trick for spotting. Retrieving is a bit of a challenge only because she got a hard mouth. If it is still moving when she finds it - she will destroy it before bringing it back.

I really need to find a cure for the hard mouth. Anyone knows a trick for that?

She's no squirrel crazy, I can trigger her (On/off) for rabbits but it's 50/50 when comes to beavers and anything tall (deers, moose). I hate when she chases mooses. Last time she found one who didn't run away for long and turned on her. I only heard the screams (hers) and was very very happy when she got back with no serious injuries. She doesn't like bears, it's marked in her genes, they freak her out. She knew it even before she saw one for real. It was pretty funny the first time we crossed fresh bear tracks. She stopped right there, back hairs raised like I never saw before and really didn't want to go forward.

Speaking of wild life... My friend had that in her backyard this morning.

Wow, nice buck.
Yes indeed and this is only 50 feet from where the other picture with the dog and partridges was taken.
She actually took the picture from the porch (the doorstep right behind the dog).

Hikes! I don't think mine would kill a deer. I guess it's too close to her natural purpose (herder)
