So the other day I was at a pawn shop and I spotted an old Chris Reeve Sebenza laying in the display case. I asked the owner about the knife and he mentioned he had acquired it from a police officer about 5 years ago who said it was one of the first Sebenza's ever made, some kind of custom limited run of 100. He didn't have paperwork or a box so I didn't purchase the knife, but he did allow me to take some pictures to get the blade ID'ed and put it on hold for me.

So, can y'all help me ID this blade and roughly what it's worth? The man is asking 200$ for the blade, which seems about right for a user Sebenza, just a might cheap but it's really one of the smoothest, most beautiful blades I've ever handled.

here's pics:

I realize there's scratches in the blade and handles, but I really think I can probably fix it up. What do y'all think?

In the last pic that knife looks flat ground. I wonder if that's possible?

Also it's satin on the flats and stonewash on the bevels. There is something unusual about that blade I think.

It's supposedly a limited run from the first 100 Sebenza's made, but the dude doesn't have any paperwork to back it up. Is it worth 200$?

And no, it's hollow ground, I ran my fingers on the blade because I thought the same thing actually.

I might be very wrong about this (I'm not very knowledgeable on the Sebenza), but I believe that the first production run had a "P" stamped near the CRK logo. Does this one? :)

In any case, that's some good looking pimping on this one, and I'd snag it at $200 for a user based on the pix shown.

BTW, there is a Chris Reeve Knives sub-forum on BladeForums, and I'm sure that you can find out the answers that ya need there if you don't here. :)

Here's the link to the CRK sub-Forum.

I think it's beautiful. I just sent an email to the owner of the pawn shop telling him I'll take it. It'll be my first Sebenza; hopefully they're as good of EDC knives as people say. I'm not expecting Godly performance, but I would like to get my money's worth, and if I don't like it I'll trade it for a Strider SNG. Was pretty torn between the two knives but this is the cheapest, so I'll do that for a high end EDC.

If you don't like it I don't think you'll have any trouble selling it. Post a review after you get it.

If that's a first run it's ATS34 steel and there will be lettering and numbers to indicate when it was made also. I personally don't care for the mod and you can find a user with better steel (if that's ats34)that isn't burned up looking for $250 easily. Plus that is the regular sebenza and I don't think the originals were regulars. Best case scenario that's a BG42 blade which is more desirable to some. I would say wait, get the letter and number from the inner frame(which will tell you the year) so you know exactly what you're
dealing with before buying. If it has a number earlier than b96 it's Ats34 if it's b96-a02 it's bg42 and everything after that is s30v. Those numbers are the year made a means the first half of the year and b means the second. For example b04 would mean it was made in the second half of 2004.

Moved to Chris Reeve forum.

That knife is easily worth more than $200 around here.
No surprise, don't expect a pawn shop to know anything about provenance, though.

Good eye Al, it looks flat ground to me also....definately worth 200 bucks.:)
