>The previous owner probably stripped the blade and put on a handle.
second that, consider it a nice customized BM

Yup now that I have a name to search for its a Benchmade snody instigator polished with custom scales. Worth about 50 bux. Too bad I traded a 150$ knife for it. Lesson learned

Para D2 sprint....my own fault for assuming "custom bm" meant value. I guess I just think everyone is like me and not out to rip people off and actually inform people if we are making a lopsided trade...but who knows maybe this guy was lied to and he thought it was equal...someone somewhere lied to someone and now im screwed but don't have neone to blame but myself....again lesson learned

I dont think it was the guys intention to rip me off when i traded it since he sent a pic of a couple of customs and i chose this out of the lot. so i think he didnt know what it was either. Either way it just shows ya that its easy to fall into a comfort zone of trust on here since 99 percent of people on BF are trying to grow their collections and knowledge of knives and there are equal amount of people that are so willing to help others gain both new, interesting knives and info about them. Im not pissed off and the trader is alright in my book since the transaction was great and since the inequality was totally on me, but let this remind us all that even tho not everyone is out to screw us, we still need to cover our butts. I was thinking of putting this back on the trading block but I will keep it as a constant reminder to me.

I understand your frustration, but really "the product value" research is a responsibility of consumer, not the seller. I understand that if you knew what that knife started it's life as you probably wouldn't make the trade. Also there is a possibility that if customization was not done by the trader himself, then who knows how much he paid for it, and he might not have a clue that it used to be an regular production Instigator some time ago. I wouldn't call this knife a "custom", but it is a "customized BM". Before calling the other guy a liar and dishonest trader all over the internet, you might want to think about it in a bit different way. It looks like he (or someone else), stripped the blade, satin finished it, and put handle on it. This might be an hour job for a professional knifemaker, but it could've took 4 hours (or more) from some doctor who likes playing with knives. He might value his spare time as $30/hour, so total customization cost is $120. I've seen people asking a lot of money for their time, so that's not a big surprise. Most people will not pay this price, but it really is your responsibility to know and understand what you're paying for, and figure out the value that YOU will associate with it. You did your research after the trade/purchase and that's a problem.

Edit: I guess you have typed the reply before me, and that's exactly what I am talking about.

effer, exactly my thoughts. Ive put a lot of time and effort into trading to grow my collection and obtain pieces i want and I got sloppy and got bitten for it. It is a nice little knife and does look a hell of a lot better this way that from the factory. Ill add it to the collection and cut my losses. You live and you learn and Im happy to have a nice inexpensive user that has great ratings for a 40-50 dollar knife.
