Idaho Tang Stamp

I personally am waiting for the Bucks stamped with an outline of China or Taiwan. :D

Haha, Now I don't care who you are, thats funny. Speaking of China made knives. I bought my brother a Buck 728 Whitetail Deer self proclaimed "Collectable Knife." I thought it was a great looking knife so I bought it for him. Anyhow when he finally opened it he thought it was great knife until he turned it around and we both read China on the back of it. His smile left his face instantly and was replaced by a frown and both our heads just shook in disgust. I was totally embarrassed and it totally ruined an otherwise great birthday gift. I think it would be better if Buck just didn't engrave anything on it if it wasn't made in the U.S., and just put a removeable sticker on instead so that American customers (Buck's Market) don't wear a frown everytime they look at their knives. Unless Buck is of course really proud of them being made in China, although I don't really think that they care because they are making more money.

Von,
All sarcasm aside, thanks for the comments. I could not agree with you more in regards to a "collectible" Buck knife being made over there.
I don't have a quick answer for you but i do pass all comments regarding this subject to the folks at Buck that make these kinds of decisions.

Sorry guys, but back to the Taiwan issue.

I only have praise for Buck's managment decisions as they are innovators and more importantly SURVIVORS. Would you rather have Buck go belly-up like Schrade? To have no more Bucks to buy, ever.

To be honest, I remember as a kid getting a junky 'made in Japan' knife. Well, you know what, now half of my Spydercos are made in Japan and they're pretty good.

I recently bought an Approach and the quality is excellent. If it were stamped 'U.S.A.,' I wouldn't know the difference.

I consider myself a knife nut and I'm OK with the whole Taiwan thing. I just wish Buck would clearly mark these knives as it was a shock when I bought my Diamondback and Approach and couldn't see the tang stamp until I opened the blister pack.

Mike

P.S. The serrations are annoying on my Approach and Access. I wish I had a choice for PE.

I agree with Mike on this one. If you put MADE IN CHINA or MADE IN TAIWAN on the packaging then I have a choice on whether I want to buy a foreign made item or not. I've looked at some of the knives sold at Walmart and passed because I couldn't tell where they were made. I guess I could make the assumption that all of the product in blister packs is foreign made?

I think that Buck Knives will be glad to hear that at least one person reading the Buck Knives Forum is looking forward to the "Taiwan" and "China" Buck Knives. ;)

Coming soon, if not already, to your local Wallyworld.

About the tang stamp, please keep the tang stamp a stamp! I'm noticing more and more companies etching their blades instead of stamping them, but by and large I prefer stamped tangs, especially on folders.

Yes, I totally agree!

I was at Academy Sports and Outdoors in San Antonio yesterday inquiring about the Buck 55. They didn't have it and since I was already holding a blister pack 110 as a visual tool for the salesman, I bought it. My first 110 since 1986. Almost shaved the print off my thumb one-hand opening.

Oh, yeah....it has the Idaho stamp. :D

yes i like stamps also not etched, and will pay the extra bit to have the stamp!
in face i would sujest that buck use a difrent state outline as a year mark each year  !!!
wow 50 years to compleat a state collection!!! :) what a way to pass on to the next generation of collectors!!
Come on noww what do you other guys think of that thought??

as for the idaho outline ! dont look for it on the overseas knives as it is agenst the law to display the outline of a state or the contry on a product with out clearly (take that as on the same side! ) desplaying the sorce of the knife!!! any thing else is deceptive per FTC and buck has the non USA knives marked so on the revirse side (jest in case any one has not noticed!) !.
