Idea for a beckerhead collaboration/contest

Ok I was thinking about doing something fun and trying to involve everyone, so here is my idea. (Mods if this is against the rules or a no-no without prior approval just shut it down and I will never speak of it again...well maybe in chat I will :D )

My idea is for a beckerhead wide mod pass around. People sign up, the blade gets sent to everyone, and every does ONE mod to it. Only one, so for example if you grind a thumb ramp then leave the squaring of the spine for someone else. Also no one is to touch another's mod, so if someone patinas it, leave the patina on (except if grinding or sanding scratches it up so my advice would be let one of the last guys do the finish) UNLESS that person specifically says "I screwed this up can someone fix it" well then the guy who fixes it, that's your mod. Of course take tons of pics and describe what you did in detail. Also remember that there are people behind you, so don't do things that will hinder others work.. for example epoxying on scales before its stripped. When its all said and done the finished product will be given away, dunno how yet. Again this is all just a brainstorm now, I don't have approval yet so this isn't a sign up.

What do you guys think? Yay? Nay? Also which Becker blade would be best suited for something like this?

If you have any ideas to improve this or just wanna talk about it, I wanna hear it.

Well ... if it's going to be given away at the end, I vote for a BK 77 ;)

All kidding aside, sounds like a good idea.

Needs to be a big knife, to take all the mods. (i.e. 2, 7, 9)

JMHO, but I'm in.

Yeh i. thinking id have to limit the signup. Or take away the rule about not remodding the same thing. I wanna see which everyone prefers. I don't mind either way but some might be offered if someone changes the mod that they did to the knife.

Neat idea, I would think one of the bigger blades like the 7 might lend itself to being the best blade to use. You would probably have to limit the number of people who could participate since I would think there would be a limited number of mods.

Maybe even 2 different knives to get more people involved. I duno if funds will allow for me to do that but its a possibility since everything is up in the air now, esp my tuition.

Sounds like a good idea. You might be better off picking which mods you liked and see if the modder will perform the mods on your giveaway knife. for example I think you should do the filework on the grip area. Then pick another mod that works with it, p.m. the modder and go from there.

That's a good idea, I just don't want to tell people what they can do. Maybe for sign up ill have a list. For example, choil, patina, firework, thumbramp, clip point, scales, etc etc and at sign up the guys would state "im in and im doing xyz" that way I can set up the shipping order and everyone knows ahead of time. If that was your idea im sorry I misread your post. :D

Although im hoping for more of a here's a knife, do as you wish and pass it on kinda thing. Kinda wanna see what comes of it with a bunch of guys doing it up. Could be the 5th symphony or could be a pile of crap, but either way I know it'll be fun to watch

Cool idea. I think you could put together a plan and have people signup for certain phases of the plan without hindering creativity and giving up what they are going to do prior to the mod itself. I would donate some $$ to the purchase of a BK to start with.

Thats awesome of you man. Ill let ya know if and when this thing starts up and if i need any support to get it rolling.

Good Gawd, I can't wait to see this abortion. :D

With all these folk doing different mods, we'll wind up with a "Landshark On 'Roids" or something.

I'm interested. Tell me more.

:D

maybe, maybe not. maybe kabar will come a knocking and itll be the mantle piece on the beckerhead wall of fame.

All great suggestions guys, keep em coming, the more input the better it becomes and the easier and faster it can take shape.

So far ive got some ideas, so now i need interest. If you think youd want in, speak up so i can see just about how many guys we would have

This puppy is gonna' be all pimped out. A stripped and polished, convexed, coiled, jimpped, squarred spined, bad Wama Jama, with custom scales, a custom sheath,
skull and cross bone lanyards, Armageddon firesteel and a small condo for 2 on the beach ... :D

Do we have a "Forum Knife" ? ...

Interesting. Can 113 + mods even be done to a knife ? How many BeckerHeads are there ?

Very funny :D

so far my idea is two Becker knives. Bk9 or bk7. 2 teams of 6-8 per side. Each team decides who's doing what and when, amongst themselves (I figure ill have to appoint a team captain or something). Then its an outright mod off. Depending on team sizes that's how many mods can be done, no more, no less. One mod per guy. Winner chosen by random bladeforum poll (not set in stone) Winning team then eligible to win both blades. Judged by your peers of Bh's by the two on the team who did the best mods.

Or one knife, limited sign up, do what you want to it. period. just not stepping on other guys work. then at the end its given away at random.

Too confusing? to simple? I can rework it. Its just a rough draft. The whole thing might be a crappy idea, i dunno, maybe just scrap the idea and let it fall into the archives

If it's a 7, I'm willing to donate mine, but it's been stripped, choiled, and slightly convexed.

I also have a 2 and a 5 that are willing to be played with. Both have been stripped.
