Idea for New Blade Steel

It occurred to me the other day that the only people who are worse steel snobs (and I mean that in a good way:p) than Spyderco fans are Busse fans. I've never had an INFI knife, but everyone who has them loves them.

Spyderco has done a collaboration before (Spyker) and Busse doesn't seem to be much into the folder market.

Would it be possible to do a Spyderco with an INFI blade?

I'm sure collaboration work like that is very difficult, INFI may be hard to work with, and Busse may not care to take resources away from their fixed blade production, but if it could work out...

...Who her would want one?

Ummmmm-me. Me me me me me! If they did a collaboration like the SpyKer- that would be the ultimate. A satin warden blade, with a Spyderhole in a colored G10 handle with a compression or bb-lock please. If Busse and Spyderco were to work together, the stars would align, volcanoes would erupt, and the earth would shake in anticipation.

The only reason INFI can't be used as a folder steel, is that Jerry doesn't want to do a folder (and he's smart not to). From a business perspective, it's probably better for Busse if the folder never sees the light of day. But a collaboration would be great. Perhaps a folder in SR101 or a new proprietary steel with better corrosion resistance that's not specifically INFI would be in order. Or Jerry could design a folder for Spyderco using CPM-S30V. Busse design and aesthetics fused with Spyderco materials and manufacturing, that would be interesting.

This door could swing both ways. I was actually thinking last night about how much I would like a game warden in H1 steel. I love INFI, but H1 is growing on me fast as a favorite steel. I don't do much that requires the full power of INFI (I try, but it's hard when you live in the city) but I really appreciate H1's corrosion resistance. A green linen warden with a satin H1 blade (and tube fasteners?) would be awesome. It would be a perfect knife for everyday IWB carry. The only problem is that Sal says H1 can't be made any thicker than 3mm. I like 'em thick!

But the price would be $$$$$$$$$$, and could you possibly get one, except on the secondary market?

 Hands down, the best fixed blade company and the best folder company in my book. I have often considered a collab, but, given the nature of Busse Combat's mystique and incredible propriety steel, I really doubt it would ever happen. Also, both have a habit of delaying things for years, so if it were announced today, I would probably be on my death bed by the time the knife came out.

I hope Sal's reading this, because all this talk is making me REALLY want to see what the "Tuff Concept" is going to look like, as that knife may be as close as we'll get, to a folder of the level that's being discussed here... Now you've gone and done it, how about an Extrema Ratio/Spyderco collaboration? Isn't the Volpe made in Italy? I mean, it seems so clear... A Spyderco, with 1/4 inch n690 Steel blade, that's built to withstand anything...

P.S.
None of the above comments should be construed as belittling the wondrous miracle that would be an Busse Designed Infi/Spyderco Folder... If the Manix/Chinook platform made the lock-strength testing machine jump off of the table, then I'm pretty sure that the SalBusse, would probably cause the machine to file for workman's comp and go into early retirement, before any useful testing data could be found.

Hey J85909266,

If your gonna quote TOOL, givem some credit for it:D .

Haha, sigs are a given. Any time I'm asked, I give the song, album and band. To me, Tool can't be given enough credit.

Anyway, Spyderco testing INFI is a dream to me. This thread is making me crazy.

Gee, yet another uber expensive monochromatic grey metal that offers marginally better edge holding than VG-10 and S30V.

Hmm, I can't think of any current Spyderco folder that is longer than 4" - and that's really not much (!) so why do you want something "tough" (or as suggested .25" (6.4mm) thick? - I have fixed knife with 6" blade that is made from .25" thick steel - and it's overkill) in a folding knife?

I have many Spyderco's and with that I have been able to get many different steels. VG-10 ZDP-189 ATS-55 ATS-34 Gin1 S30V BG42 N690co. I would love to pick up a CPM440V but I would love to see an INFI equiped Military or Manix. I'm not looking for a .25 folder. The infi I have is pretty darn good.

I'd want it because INFI has awesome Wear resistance really good edge holding, and here's the kicker It's INFI!!!:D
