After reading the thread on the workman with rubber scales I got to thinking about some things..... I like the idea of interchangeable scales.. How about a new updated version of the classic 110 and 112 for people, especially hunters, that want a modern? version of these knives..
110 & 112
Finger grooved
G-10 scales with torx or hex head screws
Brushed stainless steel bolsters ( helps with the finger prints )
ATS -34 or SV30 blade steel with or without black coating
After writing this I looked at it and realized I had just described a knife that seems more tactical, it wasn't meant to be... Just seems like a very practical version, and there seems to be a huge market for knives with similar features. Why not make it on one of the most durable knives ever made ?????
I could go a 110 with G-10 in different colors. Be easy to see maybe when field dressing a deer after dark. One you shot late and ran out of light, other than the headlights of the truck. (Just so you don't think I hunt illegally).
We already have all the premiun steels. S30V - Cabellas, 154 CPM Bass Pro, BG42 Buck Custom shop.
SS bolsters,,,well maybe, but can you sand and polish out the scratches every few years or so, if so inclined??
Interchangeable scales with torx screws... Maybe on that also, since the scales probably don't loosen up much if you use a little blue locktite. Least the ones on my alpha folders never have.
So, for me, some options of G-10 color scales would work. As well as a rubber handeled option. (I tried out Daves and liked it a lot)
But come to being able to change out a blade via some torx screw system like the alpha folders, the cutback, and Hilo, built into a 110 frame, I don't think so.
Any of the blade adjustable screw systems I have used have loosened up with time. Even the small 170 I used to carry a lot.
For me, I have never had a 110 blade go wobbly on me and I have one that I have used almost every hunting season since the mid 70's until I retired it a couple years ago with the purchase of the Cabellas AG.
A lighter TI frame built on the same 110 design might be nice. But here again, TI will get beat up and scratched up with use, and really hard to clean up all the scratches. At least for me.
As far as using a 560 frame for my deer processing, Been there tried that and the blade loosened up so fast it was scary. It actually made a clicking sound as I would make a cut that wasn't straight up and down.
So,,,more coffee and mulling this over ....thnking is too hard this early for and old person.
I think the custom shop BG42 with figi orange, NS, and FG for $88 will be my next 110 purchase and become a user.
Just babbling incoherently here....
