Ideal stock for forging small knives

If you were to forge 4" stick tang blades or smaller, 1/8" thick.

What round bar dimensions would you go for?
Of is flat bar preferred and in that case what dimensions?

1/2" round stock should work just fine for that size blade.

I like 1" x 1/4" flat bar for forging small up to medium sized knives and will switch to 1.5" x 1/4" for larger ones.
