Hi im building a 2x42 square wheel grinder that i (in theory) be able to convert to a 2x72 later. The only reason i want a 2x42 is because of how i have a surplus of 2x42 belts laying around and want to use them up, also i have an old 1/2 hp 1750 rpm general electric motor to power it (ill eventually get something like a 1.5 horse for the 2x72). Im fairly broke so any ideas on a design thats made of wood or cheap steel would be great. I just really want to be able to upgrade it to a 2x72 in the future. I dont have a welder or angle grinder but do have a small metal bandsaw and cheapo 1x30 belt sander and drill press. Again any design ideas would really help me seeing as though i have only 2 years of experiance, and i didnt really get out to work much because of school but i have much more time now. I have a budget of around 80$ and was looking to use some longboard wheels that i already have to make the wheels (ill put a crown on them)

I would suggest you make some plans and save some money ... then build a 2X72. You can sell your old belts on ebay. Building a very underpowered and small belt size grinder isn't going to save you money, it will cost you. Buy once - cry once.

Thanks im just making a prototype out of wood for fun but then i will either save up for a kmg or make a 2x72 i need this grinder for just a small amount of time in the near future and im building it in my shop class in my free time
