We received some $$$ from both of my grandparents' estates and have been considering using it to purchase our kids "memorial" guns since both grandfathers were very big outdoorsmen. What I'd like to do is get medallions made that I could inlet into the stocks to display the significance of those particular firearms.

My trouble is that through my searches I have been able to find only the most basic dog-license machine engravers or high-end casting companies with minimum orders of 100-200 and nothing in the middle.

Any ideas or suggestions? I'm looking t 1.5" or 2" round brass and/or nickel to match the furniture of the particular firearms so I'd just have to drill with a forstner bit to inlet the medallions.

I would look to hire a good engraver. You can get one-off work at relatively reasonable prices. I'm sure some folks here can recommend good engraver...

Check with your local jewelry makers. Some of them are set up with lost wax equipment and can cast most anything you have in mind.

I have one here locally that does inlays for me at very reasonable prices.

Google ,"custom medallions" and you will get hundreds of choices.

If you go with making just two pieces ,done by a hand engraver or a one-off shop, you will spend a couple hundred dollars ( and, depending on the price and skill of the engraver, maybe unsatisfactory results). If you get one of the medallion companies to make 50-100 you will spend the same or less money (and have a lot of spare medallions).Look at the examples shown on the web sites. The possabilities are endless, and the results are exact.
Go ahead and check with as many local area trophy shops and engraving shops as you have around. You may get lucky. If no good results are found, go with the internet order. If you design an emblem that means something to your families, and can be used on other things besides the rifles, then the extra medallions won't be a waste.

You might want to talk with Page (sunshadow), he makes amazing jewelry and might be able to help you.

HomeBru, you strike me as a pretty handy guy. Why not get a few simple engraving tools and sketch a few ideas and do it yourself. With a little practice who knows?
