Ideas for a Wedding Cake Knife

Hey all, after I have come close to completing my first knife, I have thought about making a knife for my wedding in a couple years. I recently got engaged, and thought it would be a cool thing to do.

My idea is that I want to make the nicest possible knife aesthetically as I can with good materials, but I also want it to be something that can be useful after the wedding as well (why waste the time and effort for only one nigh??). My thoughts were then to maybe make a chef style knife such as a sujihiki to use as the cake cutter and later as an actual kitchen knife.

Would anyone have any thoughts or input on this? I would plan on making a few knives before jumping into it, but is this going to be too much? Is it stupid to use a chef style knife for the cake so that I can use it later on?

I was almost thinking something similar to Pierre Rodrigue's design:

If the wedding is a couple years away, and you just began your knife making journey.I would say continue to make ,and in a couple years you will know exactly what you want and how to make it.

That looks like a pretty good design for a cake knife, it us used to cut and serve. I have made some and everyone really likes the Faux Ivory, really looks good and you can jazz it up with some custom pins and spacers. After the wedding, its practical to use in the kitchen

Good advice on both ends, thanks a bunch. I will continue to make knives (albeit at a slow pace) and learn as best I can. I suppose I'm just a bit in the excited stage still, but I want to make sure I'm giving myself plenty of time.

I was wondering about Faux Ivory, I like the looks of it especially for the occasion.

Per the lady's request... she likes rustic and woodsy natural stuff. Is it possible to have bark on the scale material stabilized somehow? Something similar to scales being like this pencil:

No idea if you can get that stabilised. I've seen a wooden handle carved as if it were bark.
Maybe intergrate two rounded brass spacers in the handle to symbolise the wedding rings.

If you have a few years maybe make one in the near future to see if you like the shape/size in the kitchen.
That way you're sure your future wife and you like the wedding knife in the kitchen.

Good ideas, really like the spacers touch to it. Thanks! After making a parer and a few other knives I'll try to plunge into the larger chef knife and see what I think.

I may just make a regular dull cake knife after talking on the chat, still contemplating.
