Ideas for an EDC pack?

For the rustic, also look a products from Duluth Pack (more famous for their canoe portage packs).

Check out the Kelty MAP 3500. It was designed to be a Military spec pack with out looking like a Military pack. Made from Beefy materials, has an internal water bladder pocket, good organization, 2 external water bottle pockets and internal frame stays. http://www.amronintl.com/kelty-map-3500-three-day-assault-pack.html Got mine on sale last year, it's been great as a day pack.

Alps Solitude and Solitude Plus are two more packs that you should check out. I'd have gotten the Solitude Plus, if I hadn't scored a MAP 3500 for $79.99 on sale.

Well its been over a month and lots of supper packs have been suggested.. Sooo.. What did ya pick??? John

Thanks for the suggestions. Went with the Mountainsmith Tour pack and added shoulder straps. Has been the perfect companion. I am also now considering some of the larger backpacks to carry on longer trips. I certainly have paralysis of analysis!

I own and highly approve of the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II. Its a lightweight, smallish to medium backpack with two exterior bottle holders that you might like. My sons have used Maxpedition Condor II backpacks as school bags for the last 6 years, and they have held up extremely well considering the abuse that school packs will endure.
I have two of these, excellet packs...

I own a few Mystery Ranch and Kifaru packs, and when I don't need a suspension system I still use a Spec Ops THE pack, and they can be had from the website for $99 right now. Top tier quality, tougher than my MR or Kif gear, USA made but have a tactical look. Years ago I bought a Maxped Vulture II. It lasted me 2 six-week trips to west Africa and one easy couple of weeks in Afghanistan before it was unserviceable. My THE Pack has lasted 4 and 1/2 years of Africa trips and is still my main travel bag. I just bought another one just because they are on sale. I'll retire my current one as my wife's mountain camera bag/travel bag and adopt the new one as my own. The old one is still 99.99% of what it was when I bought it.
