Ideas on handle texture

Just wanted to see what's being done by everyone. I've tried sand blasting and some basic milled patterns, just want some input on stuff to try. Any ideas on G10 texturing other than buying it that way? Thanks!

A lot of manufacturers have a rough finish on their flat G10 scales. I have a Benchmade 581 Barrage with contoured G10 scales but the finish is less rough than most Spyderco scales. I've looked at the "gator skin" texture of the ZT 0200 and wondered how well it would work. I would like to try something like that. I've seen a lot of G10 scales that people have scalloped with tapered grinding stones in a dremel too. I think those would work well for grip but the look is not something that I like. I would like to see someone try something like checkering to see how well that works. Oh, another thought- the Benchmade 581 Barrage has lines milled in the G10. It seems like those placed just right on the scales would be good for grip, but that might make the knife less ambidextrous.

Hey ,

We here often Jigg our G-10 just like jigged bone handles,,,, looks awesome and works great.

You can stipple it to rough texture by carefully using an electric engraving pen.

I love doing an anso texturing. I don't have a close up of the handle, but here's a picture. They look pretty cool, and are really grippy. (sorry for the super big images, I can't figure out how to shrink them)

I use a dremel and do all kinds of different textures. I think its my favorite part of knife making. These are fixed blades but I have done some custom folder scales with the same style only on a smaller scale.

Here are a few different ones
