Ideas??????????

Haha, I guess it's too late now.
You have to start that in early childhood and work on it steadfastly.

Bill, maybe if you only use your left hand...wait, thats your strong one huh ;)

I have a few of the pouches at home. I will be back from vacation this weekend and will get measurements.

i just want to make a freaky,ugly p.o.s knife, how can i accoplish that?Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BA, don't go messing with what's working for you two guys. Like I said about you two and the Beatles, take a look at your knives & Chris's knives, none of which have a long shelf life on these forum's. Hell, if there was a way you two could get your production up, you could probably start selling "standard" models that you have in stock. Let's worry about the get together so Gnarly doesn't have to save bail money again (translate into knife money) and get this forum out to more people traffic, then we can worry about "uglying" up some of your knives . . . . :)
Be safe.

j1m, i really appreciate the kind words. I went into this wanting to make a knife that you could use for extended periods. My main focus was handle comfort and correct heat treating. My grinds will come with time and practice. On the upside, i contacted my sheath guy to order some new sheaths! He is going to make me the universal sheath and one an inch longer for bigger knives. He is also going to make me a few pocket sheaths with a clip to try out. One thing he is going to add on the bigger sheaths is a removable pouch for a stone or tinder! It should be a really nice addition and i will be able to remove it if the customer doesnt want. Oh, and the last thing.....he is going to make an essentials pouch! I need some input on what size would work and if you would want some sort of strap for belt carry. I think it would be a good item to just sell outright, maybe post a thread with a pic and take orders. He said he could make them quickly so the wait time would be a week or so. What ya think?

Chris, all the ones I have seen made on the forum were geared towards being able to fit an "Altoid's tin" into. This is one of the more common containers used. I am having a custom leather sheath made for my SwampRat as we speak with a pouch added to it, also with Molle straps to the back of it in case I want to mount it to my pack instead of my belt. These just snap off if I want to carry it on my belt so they are not in the way. It is in the works, but I don't know where in the pipeline. It's not a "911" with me, so I told him to take his time and let me know when he started putting the pieces together to go over final measurements. Some of the pouches I have seen are leather with a "flip over" flap and snap closure, and a few even had a firesteel loop on the side. Can't remember the sizes, but my guess would be around 2 1/2" +/- X 4 1/2" +/-, probably about 1/2" to an 1" thick.
Good idea, fits right along with the custom firesteel / knife handle match as well.
Be safe.

J1M, I was thinking something about 5" wide 4" tall and 1"deep. That would get a tin and room for other stuff. I like to have a tin with fishing items but I always need another tin for fire essentials. I figure you could have a tin and still get a firesteel, tinder, etc in there. I would rather it be too big than too small!

Chris, this would probably be right in the ball park. I have some pouches from Maxpedition, the M-1 & M-2, and they are "about" 3 1/2" wide by "about" 5 1/2" tall, and "about" 3" deep. I am sure you could go insane trying to come up with the "perfect" size that would work for the whole world. Take some double walled cardboard, score one side, and fold these up to different sizes & see what shakes out. Just use your experience & what you would order from someone, trust your instincts, & all of us will beat a path to yours & BA's doors . . . . :D
Be safe.
