Welcome to BladeForums. Unfortunately noone will be able to help you unless you post pictures of the knives:

The simplest option is to create a free account at https://imgur.io/. You'll upload your photos to imgur, then simply post a link from your imgur account in this thread. Your photos should appear in the thread but if not then at least there will be links people can follow.

Good luck.

Stay away from pawn shops, that's for sure!

Kinda depends on what you think you've got. If you have some stuff that has obvious historical value, then an antiquities dealer should be able to help you.

Stuff like bayonets, or if you have a knife that was signed by Jim Bowie, go that route. In other words, something which is "valuable" because of the history it participated in.

If you've got a collection that doesn't have any obvious history, you will want to go to a shop that deals in knives, mainly or exclusively.

It's worth mentioning that since you're a "free to play" member (like me), you're not allowed to ask directly about values, here on Bladeforums.

Good luck. There's no "fair market value" for knives, so don't take an offer without doing your research, first.

Welcome to BF! Once you can post pics, you can try posting in the Bernard Levine subforum. Until you have a better handle on what you have, I wouldn't try cleaning anything yet.

thank you for the replies. I will try to find a way to upload photos I don't really want to use a site that allows the photos to be public. I have one on my desktop that I am trying to move into the body of the message but it is not letting me. I will keep trying

Welcome to Bladeforums rglen.

What type of knives are they? Kitchen/butcher knives? Dinning ware knives? Hunting knives? Military knives? Folding knives? Etc.

Do the knives have any markings/words on them?

There are only a few ways to post pictures on this forum. You either need to use a photo hosting site, or become a paying (Gold) member ($30 for a year). As a Gold member or higher you can post pictures directly from your computer, as well as several other perks like asking for dollar values and selling knives here at the forum, just to name a few. To learn more about becoming a Gold member click on "Paid Subscriptions" in the blue banner across the top of the screen.

The only other way to post pictures is to email them to another member and they post them for you, but that would require a volunteer.

For what it's worth, on imgur you can elect to make your photos public (seen by anyone visiting the site) or hidden (seen only by you and those you invite). I'm sure there are other services with more privacy, but imgur functions almost seamlessly with the forums' software.

I will look at Imgur again. The knives are Case XX but that is all I can read on the tang. other ones are Puma, Easy Ace, Herbert, Sabre,Cobra-Brazil, Gerber,Colonial, crown. I am wanting to clean them up to use. I have watched some youtube videos but then see there are different types of blade material. There are different ways, oils, materials to use. There are loose blades on some but not falling apart, how would I tighten that.

If you move forward with trying to clean/restore the knives one option is to simply dip the knives in mineral oil (can buy at any pharmacy or grocery store; it is also safe to ingest, so no issues with toxicity). Once saturated you can rub away rust/grime with a rag or wooden toothpick. The oil will also help the joints of your folders - just work the joints open and closed then wipe away any grime. You can also use fine steel wool to remove more serious rust, but only do so to stop deep pitting.

Again, I would resist the urge to clean anything until you know what you have. There are members here that have much more experience in refurbishment and can provide more, and probably better, advice.

Thank you. I guess I need to have a way of putting the pictures online.

There is a knife sub here for Bernard Levine's knife collecting and Identification. I posted up some clear pictures and they were able to assist me with the identification of some old knives I had.

You can not put a photo in the message body. You can use the 5th icon from the right at the top of the posting box (icon looks like a picture) to insert a link to your photo on a hosting site. When you upload your photos to a hosting site they are private by default, and if you want, you can make them public or share them with specific viewers.
We all put photos of our knives up, especially for identification purposes.
Unless your knives are stolen property, there really is no reason to avoid your knife photos from being public.

Hello, I have a mac desktop and it looks like imgur is only available for Google I did try Ipic but cannot find the app now. Do you know of any other. I may just become a gold member and do it that way. I won't do anything to them until I find out.

Hello,

I may have found how to insert images, will have to get the others in app and post.

how do I make them smaller

thank you
Your size looks fine, very easy to see and for us to clearly enlarge for details. Images are crisp. I would keep them (pictures) that size. You can usually get up to 10 pictures to post in a single posting, just keep adding them into your post.
