What style is this and what was it used for?

I could be way off base, because I've never seen that kind of blade. But I would make my best guess as some experiment of a skinner. Looks like an attempt to eliminate the possibility of piercing internals as you skin an animal.
 
I can't figure out how to add image

For adding image, just copy the image itself from photobucket, and paste in the editor.

Also, I have no clue what that abomination is. It is quite...unattractive, but perhaps that shape excels at cutting certain things? Maybe soft things like banana or butter.
 
looks like someone's first knife, possibly unfinished or WIP. something home made. possibly used to spread butter or cut cheese. but im no expert in the least.
 
Looking at it's construction and since you don't desrcibe any markings, I'd guess it was a home-made beaver knife.
 
I'm going to agree with the majority that it looks like it's probably designed for skinning and/or working with animal hides. That big, exagerated, rounded tip kinda reminds me of an ulu.
