So I have been wanting a Buck119 for a while, ever since I started collecting knives, I was going to wait till next year and buy a new one from Walmart. Today I was out at a flea market and found one, it was pretty beat up, the blade was fine but the handle was really faded with a few dings in it, so not a huge huge deal. Anyways I wanna find out what year this was if possible, it says BUCK of course and then 119+. I don't know if this is a key to find out what year it is or what. But if anyone knows and can help me out I'd really appreciate it!

Also, I put the knife in warm soapy water to soak and see what that would do, is there anything I can do to bring back the nice black handle? I can post pictures if you would like to see the knife and the markings and everything.

Hi Zach,

The "+" symble shows you is was made in 1991. However, I have no idea how to bring back the black luster to your faded handle. Post a few photo's of your knife.

Polishing the handle with Flitz will bring it back to showroom new, depending on the condition of course. It works for me!
Good Luck Zach.......
After any further soakings of your Buck, warmly dry the knife with a hair dryer so as to evaporate the water that got under the handle. Water and crud just ain't supposed to be there.

Blade, it has some black stuff on it, what should I use to get this off?

Here is where it says "Buck
199+
USA"

Thats the wrong sheath for that knife and a reworked handle.Send it to Buck they'll get it all back to new for you.The blade is 425 steel which was discontinued in 1992.So, its worth the cost of a redo.
That sheath goes w/ a Pal md.36.DM

So as you can tell it is a very well used knife which is why I bought it, to me this is an expensive knife at around 42 dollars, im 15 and can't afford to buy hundred dollar knives :P so if I had a 42 dollar knife and scratched it I'd be really mad! I bought this at a flea market for 20 dollars, I need to clean it up and buy a new sheath but all in all I am very happy with it. If anyon can tell me what to use on the blade though I'd really appreciate it!

Hey Zach...I can see you are veiwing this thread as I am...Hi

If you want, you can send the knife in to Buck to my attn and we will get that knife shiny like new. I am very interested in looking at how the handle has been customized so is a win-win...you pay to ship it here and we will get it back to you.

That would be great, this may sound like a stupid question but what should I write down as to whats wrong with it, I'v never done stuff like this before and I don't think writting "its dirty, clean it up please" would be so good, haha so if you could give me an idea of what to write I would really appreciate it!

just a quick note to remind me of this conversation is all you need to do.

CJ is your best bet... :)

That looks like JB Weld. Not worth trying anything on. I'd bet that the OEM grip is hidden somewhere underneath it...but after looking at the blade close, I'm thinking it was in a fire, and the grip burned off, hence the JB Weld...

I can't wait to ship it out! I spent the last lil bit of my money on the knife so I think when my dad gets paid friday is when we are going to ship it out and I hope it doesnt take too long for me to get it back, I love messing around with my knives and this is the first fixed blade iv gotten!
