Howdy guys,

I made a short video yesterday about how to identify a fatwood stump. Hopefully I am not too far off base since I made all of it up...

Just kidding, it is at least 10% accurate. :D

Video

Brian, we need a post icon that is a little fire!

Good video storl. I guess you now have enough fatwood for two lifetimes :)

You should sell some in the G&G section here.........I know at least one person who'd buy some :D

Does fatwood come from a certain species of tree like pine or cedar or can it be from any species?

storl - When I clicked the link in your post the other forum did not have the link to the video.

I wouldn't mind selling it, but it is pretty easily found in stores. Ace Hardware usually has it in their fire section, as do most other hardware or department stores. If someone really wants to give me money for mine, I wouldn't argue though. :)

Ah, whoops, thanks for the heads up. I did not even mean to link to that post. I meant to link directly to youtube, but I guess I copied the wrong link. It is updated in the OP now.

The video is in the post on my forum, it is just a dark green link, so it blends in with the black text a little too well.

I used to be able to get it, but it has been more and more scarce around here. I know of a few places here that only carry it around fall/winter. Every time I got to the box stores. nill/nada/nein/nothing and the jokers that work there haven't a clue.

I'll try Ace though, as I haven't, and there is one in a strip mall going the back way home, but you may be getting a PM from me later on:)

Thanx storl - Your explanation about how the fat wood comes to be is
very informative.

Maybe YOU wouldn't want to carry that stump around with you - but I think you are a sissy.

I carry TWO stumps with me hooked to a log chain that I DRAG! ;)

p.s. GREAT video - thanks!

Home Depot usually has pretty decent sized boxes of it for $5.

Good video. I have about 100 acres of stumps right now. Need to get some time to go pull a couple out.

I got a visit from Spark!

Thanks, guys. I have been digging up fatwood since I was a little kid, but never called it that and never knew why it was created. I forget where I learned how it came to be, but it was probably here. :)

My friends make fun of me because we'll be driving through the woods and they can tell I want to stop and dig up stumps and collect tinder fungus. By the way, I finally found some tinder fungus on my own a couple of weeks back. Maybe I can make that my next video...
